WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 CELEBRATION MESSAGE.

By the Zonal Coordinator, Yobe North. Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners Association of Nigeria.

Today, as we commemorate World Environment Day 2026, I join millions of people across the globe in celebrating our environment and reaffirming our collective responsibility to protect and preserve it for present and future generations.

The environment remains the foundation of human health, social well-being, and sustainable development. The challenges of climate change, deforestation, poor waste management, pollution, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation continue to threaten public health and livelihoods, particularly in our communities.

As Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners, we recognize that a healthy environment is indispensable to a healthy population. Therefore, we call on governments, institutions, community leaders, organizations, and citizens to strengthen efforts towards environmental conservation, proper sanitation, sustainable resource management, and climate action.

This year's celebration serves as a reminder that every individual has a role to play in safeguarding our environment. Simple actions such as tree planting, proper waste disposal, environmental sanitation, water conservation, and community awareness can make significant contributions to environmental sustainability.

On behalf of the Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners Association of Nigeria Yobe State Chapter, I commend all professionals and stakeholders working tirelessly to promote environmental health and public well being across the country.

Let us continue to work together to build cleaner, greener, healthier, and more resilient communities for all.

Today, I am honored to speak about World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5. This day reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for present and future generations.
Our environment provides us with everything we need to survive—clean air, water, food, and natural resources. However, human activities such as pollution, deforestation, improper waste disposal, and excessive use of natural resources are putting immense pressure on our planet.

We can see the effects around us: rising temperatures, extreme weather events, loss of wildlife, and increasing pollution. These challenges affect not only nature but also our health, economy, and quality of life.

World Environment Day is a call to action. It encourages individuals, communities, businesses, and governments to work together to create a healthier and more sustainable world. Every action counts, no matter how small. Planting a tree, reducing plastic use, conserving water, recycling waste, and keeping our surroundings clean can make a significant difference.
As young people and responsible citizens, we must become environmental stewards. We should educate others, adopt environmentally friendly habits, and support initiatives that protect nature.

Let us remember that we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from future generations. The choices we make today will determine the kind of world we leave behind.

On this World Environment Day, let us renew our commitment to protecting our environment and building a greener, cleaner, and healthier planet for all.

We deeply sympathize with one of our Executive Members, the P.R.O, Ashiru Ali , over the passing of his beloved father, who passed away yesterday and was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him eternal mercy, and admits him into Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah also give the family the strength and patience to bear this great loss. Ameen.
