A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION: NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIAN NIGER EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT (ZONE B) CONDEMNS SHIRORO ATTACK AND DEMANDS SWIFT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Niger East Senatorial District Chapter, under the able leadership of Ambassador Simon Audu Audu Shekwonya, extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the resilient people of Shiroro Local Government Area, particularly those in Erena Ward, following the tragic and devastating attack carried out by armed bandits.

This unfortunate incident, which has left many innocent lives lost, several others seriously injured, homes razed to the ground, and an as-yet undetermined number of individuals abducted, is both alarming and heartbreaking. It represents not only a grave assault on the peace and security of the affected communities but also a painful reminder of the persistent challenges posed by insecurity within the Niger East Senatorial District and the state at large.

At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those who have suffered loss in one form or another. We stand in solidarity with the people of Erena Ward and the entire Shiroro Local Government Area as they navigate the aftermath of this tragedy. The courage and resilience of the affected communities in the face of such adversity remain commendable, and we urge them to remain steadfast while efforts are intensified to restore peace and normalcy.

In light of this disturbing development, the NYCN Niger East Senatorial District strongly calls on the Niger State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, to urgently escalate this matter to the Federal Government for immediate and decisive intervention. The rising wave of banditry and violent attacks in the region requires a coordinated, robust, and sustained response from all levels of government. It is imperative that proactive measures be taken to not only address the current situation but also to prevent future occurrences.

Furthermore, we urge the Niger State Government to, as a matter of urgency, deploy adequate medical personnel and supplies to the affected communities. The injured victims require prompt and comprehensive medical attention, while those displaced need humanitarian support to help them recover from the trauma and loss they have endured. Timely intervention in this regard will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the people and restoring hope in the midst of despair.

The NYCN reiterates its commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, and development of youths and communities across Niger East. We will continue to lend our voice in support of initiatives that promote peace, security, and sustainable development.

In conclusion, we call on all relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, and citizens, to work collaboratively in tackling the menace of banditry. Only through unity, vigilance, and decisive action can lasting peace be achieved in Shiroro, Niger East, and the state as a whole.

*NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) STATEMENT ON THE ESCALATING WAVE OF VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA*

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) is horrified and deeply saddened by the recent spate of attacks across our nation from the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, Niger state and Nassarawa State and the violent assault on worshippers in Kwara State, to attacks on our uniformed officers. These tragedies are unacceptable and strike at the very foundations of our society.

We mourn the lives lost, stand with the families of victims, and demand immediate, decisive action from the federal government and all security agencies to protect schools, places of worship and civilian communities. We call for a transparent rescue and recovery operation for abducted children, improved intelligence-led protection for vulnerable institutions, and urgent political will to end impunity for armed groups.

NYCN will convene a national stakeholders’ press briefing to articulate youth perspectives and deliver constructive policy recommendations to the Government and security services. We invite the Inspector-General of Police, Minister of Defence, Commandant-General NSCDC, the service chiefs, state governors, faith leaders, parents’ associations, civil society and development partners to attend. Together, we must protect our children and communities and restore safety to all Nigerians.

PRESS RELEASE

APPEAL TO THE NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF COMR. ISAH MOKWA

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Niger South Senatorial District, under the leadership of Comr. Mohammed Tanimu Mohammed, wishes to make a passionate appeal to the Niger State Government to kindly intervene in securing the immediate and unconditional release of Comr. Isah Mokwa, who was reportedly arrested at his residence in Lapai on 23 October 2025.

We wish to express our deep concern over his arrest, which appears to be linked to the expression of his personal views regarding governance and public administration. As young leaders and partners in the development of our dear state, we believe that constructive criticism and civic engagement are essential ingredients of good governance, not acts of subversion.

We fully acknowledge and appreciate the tireless efforts of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Niger State, in promoting peace, inclusiveness, and youth participation in governance. In that spirit, we humbly appeal to the State Government to use its good offices to ensure that this matter is handled with fairness, understanding, and in accordance with the rule of law.”

In light of the nations constitutional provisions, it is our humble view that no citizen should be subjected to arrest or detention merely for expressing a lawful opinion on governance. The youth must be encouraged to participate actively in nation-building through dialogue and peaceful engagement.

We therefore appeal to the Niger State Government and all relevant authorities to kindly look into this matter and ensure that Comr. Isah Mokwa regains his freedom without delay. Such a gesture will further demonstrate the government’s commitment to justice, democratic principles, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Niger South Senatorial District, remains committed to working hand in hand with the State Government to advance peace, youth development, and good governance across the state.

National Youth Council of Nigeria-Niger State Chapter

*Urgent Appeal for Federal Intervention in Road Construction Projects in Niger State*

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, under the leadership of Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Ishaq, Passionately appeal for urgent federal intervention in the long-overdue construction of two critical road projects: the Lapai-Agaie-Bida Road and the Minna-Suleja Road.

These roads serve as major economic and social lifelines for our state, connecting key towns and facilitating the movement of goods, services, and people. Unfortunately, the prolonged and unending construction work—spanning several decades—has not only stalled development but has also resulted in the tragic loss of countless lives due to poor road conditions and frequent accidents.

We respectfully call upon the Federal Government, through our esteemed federal legislators and relevant agencies, to prioritize and expedite the completion of these projects. Accelerated work on these roads will ease the suffering of our people, boost regional commerce, and demonstrate responsive governance.

We trust in your commitment to the welfare of citizens and urge that immediate steps be taken to address this pressing issue. The youth and people of Niger State are counting on your action.

Yours sincerely,
Comr. Hamza Mohammed Tatiko

TRUE LIBERATION & REBIRTH OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN)

HURRAY TO THE NIGERIAN YOUTH!

Fellow Nigerian Youth,

Today marks a historic turning point in the life of our beloved National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). Following the official withdrawal of the NYCN registration certificate by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) on 6th October 2025, we stand at the dawn of a new era of truth, accountability, and inclusive leadership.

For nearly two decades, the NYCN, our highest youth platform has suffered from prolonged leadership crises, internal disunity, and governance failures that weakened its true mandate. The decision by the CAC and FMYD to reset and restructure the Council through an Interim Management Committee (IMC) is a bold step towards the liberation of Nigerian youth voices and the rebirth of an accountable, united, and visionary NYCN.

This intervention restores hope and credibility to our Council and provides an opportunity to rebuild a truly democratic and transparent institution that works for every Nigerian youth, from the grassroots to the global stage.

We call on all youth organizations, state chapters, stakeholders, and partners to embrace this new beginning. Let us unite behind the restructuring process to reclaim the NYCN as the authentic voice of Nigerian youth, strong, credible, and focused on empowerment, innovation, and nation-building.

✊ Our Commitments are;
To work with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) in building a transparent and democratic leadership structure.

To ensure inclusive participation of all youth groups, irrespective of tribe, region, or ideology.

To restore trust, legitimacy, and vibrancy to the NYCN brand.

To advocate for youth-driven policies and opportunities that shape Nigeria’s future.

This rebirth is more than a name, it is a movement for unity, empowerment, and development. We declare that the era of division and mismanagement is over. A New NYCN is here, stronger, inclusive, accountable, and ready to fight for the future of Nigeria’s youth.

Let every young Nigerian rise and take ownership of this rebirth. Together, we will redefine leadership, build economic opportunities, and make our voices count in the destiny of our great nation.

HURRAY TO NIGERIAN YOUTH!!! THE TRUE LIBERATION IS HERE, AND THE REBIRTH OF NYCN HAS COME TO STAY!!!
