A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION: NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIAN NIGER EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT (ZONE B) CONDEMNS SHIRORO ATTACK AND DEMANDS SWIFT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Niger East Senatorial District Chapter, under the able leadership of Ambassador Simon Audu Audu Shekwonya, extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the resilient people of Shiroro Local Government Area, particularly those in Erena Ward, following the tragic and devastating attack carried out by armed bandits.
This unfortunate incident, which has left many innocent lives lost, several others seriously injured, homes razed to the ground, and an as-yet undetermined number of individuals abducted, is both alarming and heartbreaking. It represents not only a grave assault on the peace and security of the affected communities but also a painful reminder of the persistent challenges posed by insecurity within the Niger East Senatorial District and the state at large.
At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those who have suffered loss in one form or another. We stand in solidarity with the people of Erena Ward and the entire Shiroro Local Government Area as they navigate the aftermath of this tragedy. The courage and resilience of the affected communities in the face of such adversity remain commendable, and we urge them to remain steadfast while efforts are intensified to restore peace and normalcy.
In light of this disturbing development, the NYCN Niger East Senatorial District strongly calls on the Niger State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, to urgently escalate this matter to the Federal Government for immediate and decisive intervention. The rising wave of banditry and violent attacks in the region requires a coordinated, robust, and sustained response from all levels of government. It is imperative that proactive measures be taken to not only address the current situation but also to prevent future occurrences.
Furthermore, we urge the Niger State Government to, as a matter of urgency, deploy adequate medical personnel and supplies to the affected communities. The injured victims require prompt and comprehensive medical attention, while those displaced need humanitarian support to help them recover from the trauma and loss they have endured. Timely intervention in this regard will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the people and restoring hope in the midst of despair.
The NYCN reiterates its commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, and development of youths and communities across Niger East. We will continue to lend our voice in support of initiatives that promote peace, security, and sustainable development.
In conclusion, we call on all relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, and citizens, to work collaboratively in tackling the menace of banditry. Only through unity, vigilance, and decisive action can lasting peace be achieved in Shiroro, Niger East, and the state as a whole.
