AWAYSI Launches New Hostels to Support Trainees.

In a significant step toward enhancing our training programs, Arewa Women and Youth Support Initiative (AWAYSI) is proud to announce the completion of newly built hostels designed to provide safe and comfortable accommodation for our trainees.

The hostels, built with care and attention to the needs of learners, can accommodate up to 50 individuals. We now have separate hostels for male and female trainees, ensuring a secure and conducive environment for everyone.

These facilities are part of AWAYSI’s ongoing commitment to support skills development by removing barriers to participation. By providing on-site accommodation, trainees can focus fully on learning, practice, and personal growth without worrying about where to stay.

With these hostels in place, AWAYSI continues to strengthen its mission of empowering men and women through education, training, and practical skills development. Our goal is to create an environment where ambition meets opportunity, and talent is nurtured to its fullest potential.

AWAYSI Conducts Medical Outreach in Kafur, Katsina State.

A Day of Care and Compassion in Kafur, Katsina State
On a bright day in Kafur, Katsina State, something special happened. Men, women, youths, and children gathered with a shared hope — access to care, reassurance, and better health. That hope was met through a medical outreach organized by the Arewa Women and Youth Support Initiative (AWAYSI), in partnership with Arewa Central Pharmacy Limited.

From early hours, community members arrived one after another. Mothers came with their children, elderly men waited patiently, and young people showed up eager to learn more about their health. For many, this outreach was more than just a medical exercise — it was an opportunity to be seen, heard, and cared for.

By the end of the day, about 250 people had benefited from the outreach. Each person attended to represented a story, a family, and a step toward a healthier community. The diversity of beneficiaries — men, women, youths, and children — reflected the inclusive spirit behind the initiative.

With the support of Arewa Central Pharmacy Limited, medical support and guidance were provided to those in need. Beyond treatment, conversations about healthy living, prevention, and well-being filled the space, leaving many with renewed confidence and awareness about their health.

For AWAYSI, the outreach in Kafur reaffirmed a simple but powerful truth: when healthcare is brought closer to the people, lives are touched in meaningful ways. It was a reminder that community development begins with care and compassion.

As we look ahead, AWAYSI remains committed to reaching more communities, strengthening partnerships, and continuing initiatives that place people — especially women, youths, and vulnerable groups — at the heart of development.

Because a healthier community is a stronger community.

EMPOWERING FARMERS: AWAYSI’S TRAINING ON MODERN FARMING METHODS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

To strengthen agricultural practices and support local farmers in Katsina State, the Arewa Women and Youth Support Initiative (AWAYSI) recently hosted a transformative three-day training event.

Held from March 12th to 14th, 2025, at the AWAYSI Training Centre in Kafur, Katsina, the program focused on Modern Farming Methods and the Impact of Climate Change on Crops.

This initiative reflects AWAYSI’s commitment as a non-governmental, non-profit organization, established in 2019, to uplift communities in North Western Nigeria through education and empowerment.

The training brought together 40 farmers from the region, offering them practical insights into adapting to the challenges posed by climate change while boosting crop yields.

With headquarters in Katsina State, AWAYSI continues to prioritize sustainable development, and this event was a key step toward equipping farmers with the knowledge and resources they need for the upcoming planting season.

FOCUS ON CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE
The core objective of the training was to guide farmers in selecting the right seeds for crops like corn, maize, soya beans, and Irish potatoes—staples that are vital to the region’s food security and economy.

Climate change has increasingly affected rainfall patterns and soil conditions in North Western Nigeria, making it essential for farmers to adopt modern techniques and resilient seed varieties.

The sessions provided hands-on advice on how to choose seeds that can thrive under these evolving conditions, ensuring better harvests and livelihoods.

To amplify the training’s impact, AWAYSI has pledged to supply these seeds in bulk to participants before the next rainy season.

This practical support underscores the organization’s holistic approach—combining education with tangible resources to drive long-term change.

EXPERTISE FROM THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE
The event was enriched by the expertise of a resource person from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, who led the sessions. Their involvement brought a wealth of knowledge on national agricultural policies, modern farming technologies, and climate adaptation strategies.

Farmers had the opportunity to engage directly with this expert, asking questions and tailoring the lessons to their specific needs.

A STEP TOWARD RESILIENCE
With 40 farmers in attendance, the training fostered a collaborative environment where participants could share experiences and learn from one another. By targeting this group, AWAYSI is empowering a critical segment of the community—those who feed the region—to adapt to environmental challenges and improve productivity.

As the rainy season approaches, the seeds and skills provided through this initiative promise to make a meaningful difference. AWAYSI’s efforts highlight the power of grassroots organizations in addressing global issues like climate change at a local level.

LOOKING AHEAD
The success of this training is just one example of AWAYSI’s ongoing work to support women, youth, and farmers in Katsina State and beyond. By bridging the gap between knowledge and action, the organization is sowing the seeds—both literal and figurative—for a more resilient and prosperous future.

Stay tuned for more updates on AWAYSI’s impactful programs as they continue to champion sustainable development in North Western Nigeria!

The organization’s programs, ranging from vocational training to digital literacy and agricultural support, are designed to empower women and youths with practical skills and opportunities for economic growth. By addressing systemic issues and providing sustainable solutions, AWAYSI is contributing to the socio-economic development of northern Nigeria.

Looking Ahead

As AWAYSI continues to empower more individuals through its initiatives, events like the January 21 graduation serve as a reminder of the organization’s vital role in building a brighter future.
