Feast of the Holy Archangels — September 29
The image commemorates the Feast of the Holy Archangels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael, celebrated by the Catholic Church on September 29.
The three Archangels have important roles in salvation history. St. Michael the Archangel is traditionally recognized as the protector and defender of God’s people, symbolizing strength, courage, and victory over evil. St. Gabriel is the messenger of God, best known for announcing the Incarnation of Christ to the Blessed Virgin Mary; he represents God’s message, hope, and good news. St. Raphael, whose name means “God heals,” is associated with healing, guidance, protection, and safe journeys, particularly through the biblical story of Tobiah in the Book of Tobit.
The message “Protect Us • Guide Us • Heal Us” beautifully summarizes the spiritual significance associated with the three Archangels: St. Michael protects, St. Gabriel guides through God’s message, and St. Raphael brings healing and accompaniment.
On this feast day, the faithful are encouraged to seek God’s protection, listen attentively to His word, remain faithful to their calling, and trust Him for healing and guidance.
Prayer:
Holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, pray for us. Protect us from evil, guide us in the ways of God, strengthen our faith, and bring healing and peace into our lives. May we, like you, faithfully serve God and proclaim His goodness. Amen.
