COURTESY VISIT AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN THE CAREER SERVICE CENTRE, MOAUM AND THE BENUE STATE BUREAU OF CULTURE AND TOURISM.
On Tuesday, 10th February, 2026, the leadership of the Career Service Centre (CSC), Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), led by its Director, Prof. Paulina Ada Akpa, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Benue State Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Shadrach Teryila Ukuma, at his office.
The Director was accompanied by the Center’s Deputy Director, Dr. Daniel Peverga Dam, the Center’s program officer Kwaghdoo Chihintor and Josephine Tondo the Center’s Secretary.
The visit was aimed at formally congratulating the Director General on his appointment and exploring areas of collaboration between the Bureau and the newly established Career Service Centre.
In her address, Prof. Paulina Ada Akpa congratulated Dr. Ukuma on his well-deserved appointment by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. She described the appointment as a recognition of his intellectual capacity, proven performance record, commitment to duty, and international exposure. She expressed confidence in his ability to reposition and promote the rich cultural heritage of Benue State on the global stage.
Prof. Akpa also highlighted that the Career Service Centre was recently established by MOAUM with the support of TETFund. The Centre is designed to serve as a hub for career development and professional empowerment, with the vision of enabling students and graduates to excel in their chosen fields and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
She outlined the mission of the Centre, which includes:
• Providing innovative career services and comprehensive career counselling.
• Organizing dynamic programmes that bridge the gap between education and employment.
• Fostering entrepreneurship and lifelong learning among students and graduates.
The Director further enumerated the key programmes and services offered by the Centre, including:
• Career orientation and counselling
• Career training workshops (resume writing, job applications, interview preparation, etc.)
• Career resources and consultancy
• Research, monitoring and evaluation
• Facilitation of internships, volunteering, practical placements
• Mentorship and networking with alumni, industries, and agencies
Prof. Akpa emphasized that the visit was in line with the Centre’s mandate to establish strategic partnerships that would enhance students’ employability, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills. She noted that the Bureau of Culture and Tourism is particularly relevant to students in Departments such as Theatre Arts, English Literature, Religion and Cultural Studies, and Administration and Management, among others.
She formally requested the Bureau’s partnership in providing opportunities for internships, mentorship, volunteering, networking, and practical training placements for students of the University.
In his response, the Director General, Dr. Shadrach Teryila Ukuma, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Career Service Centre for the visit. He described the engagement as timely and aligned with one of his cardinal objectives, which is to expand the frontiers of the Bureau to accommodate undergraduates and expose them to practical experiences beyond the classroom.
Dr. Ukuma stated that the Bureau is committed to providing opportunities that enable students to acquire practical skills beyond their academic competencies, thereby improving their employability and broadening their professional exposure.
He further expressed enthusiasm and readiness to partner with the Career Service Centre. According to him, the Bureau is open to initiatives that promote sustainable development through wealth creation, livelihood enhancement, and employment generation. He noted that the arts, culture, and tourism sectors offer vast opportunities, given the abundance of talents and festivals in Benue State.
The Director General highlighted potential areas of collaboration to include:
• Training in tourism operations
• Destination management and branding
• Art and craft exhibitions
• Festival management
• Digital content creation
• Cultural conservation and documentation
• Hospitality services (in collaboration with agencies under the Bureau)
He assured the Centre of his commitment to pursuing strategic collaborations that would benefit students by fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, talent development, and structured internship programmes. He further emphasized that such collaboration would attract investments into the State and position Benue as a competitive destination for culture-led development.
The courtesy visit provided a valuable platform for establishing mutual understanding and exploring strategic collaboration between the Career Service Centre, MOAUM, and the Benue State Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
Both parties expressed commitment to developing a structured partnership framework that will facilitate internships, mentorship, practical training, and skill acquisition opportunities for students. The engagement is expected to contribute significantly to bridging the gap between education and employment, while also supporting cultural and tourism development in Benue State.
