The EVAGRIN Challenge is not just about who wins. It is about what happens to our young people along the way.

On selected days, we meet with these amazing children and teenagers to teach, inspire, guide and mentor them as they prepare for the challenge.

And something beautiful is happening…

We are watching confidence grow.

We are watching shy voices become bold.
We are watching young people begin to believe in themselves. ❤️

We begin and end our sessions with energizers—not just for fun, but to create a welcoming and joyful atmosphere, encourage openness, build confidence and help break the walls of shyness.

As Nigeria celebrates Independence Day, EVAGRIN remains committed to empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, confidence and mentorship to shape their future.

🌱 IT STARTED WITH ENTRIES. BUT IT HAS BECOME SO MUCH MORE THAN A COMPETITION.

Three amazing young writers. ✍️
Two incredible teen dance groups. 💃🏽
Three drama/acting performances. 🎭
And one brave young painter. 🎨

But in every category, only one winner will emerge.

Yet, as exciting as the competition is, something even more beautiful has happened along the way.

These are young people from underserved communities, coming from different backgrounds, experiences and circumstances. They came to EVAGRIN because they wanted to participate in a challenge.

But somewhere along the way, EVAGRIN became more than a competition ground. It became a place they could call home.

The team and I have been going there daily—not only to prepare them for their various categories, but also to walk alongside them, encourage them and intentionally mentor them in areas that matter beyond the competition.

We are talking about self-confidence, good conduct, morality, teamwork, discipline, creativity, communication and discovering purpose.

For some of the participants, even having the basic materials needed to compete was a challenge. So EVAGRIN stepped in and provided materials for many of them—not simply to help them compete, but to remove a barrier that could have prevented their talents from being seen.

And then we watched something beautiful happen.

We watched them form groups.
We watched them learn to work together.
We watched them challenge one another.
We watched them think, create, practise and sometimes literally crack their brains to bring their ideas to life. 😂❤️

Most importantly, we watched them begin to see themselves differently.

Perhaps this is what happens when young people are given opportunity, encouragement and someone willing to believe in them.

At EVAGRIN, we want our children and teenagers to understand that their talents are not just for entertainment. Their creativity, skills and abilities can become tools for purpose, positive expression and meaningful contribution to society.

And this is only the FIRST EDITION. 🌱

We are incredibly proud of every child and teenager who stepped forward.

A CONVERSATION EVERY PARENT, MENTOR AND COMMUNITY LEADER SHOULD HEAR.

What happens when we begin preparing boys for the men they will become early, intentionally and consistently?

We had a powerful and insightful conversation with David Akem, Founder of King David Socapa, where we explored the importance of early mentorship and why boys need focused and intentional guidance as they grow.

We talked about the gaps that can exist in a boy’s development, the role of positive male role models, and why preparing boys for responsible adulthood should begin long before they become young men.

At EVAGRIN, we believe mentorship should not be an afterthought.

The boys we guide today are the men who will shape families, communities and society tomorrow.

This conversation goes beyond boys. It is about the kind of generation we are intentionally raising.

Look at these children and think about what the future could hold for them. ❤️

They come from underserved communities where opportunities can be limited and the circumstances surrounding a child’s upbringing can sometimes feel like a game of chance. like playing Ludo, where the outcome can seem determined by the roll of the dice.

But we believe their future should not be left to chance.

At EVAGRIN, we believe that a child’s environment should never be allowed to define their destiny. Every child deserves the opportunity to dream, to learn, to be guided, to discover their potential and to grow into a responsible and purposeful adult.

And for us, this conversation is particularly important when it comes to boys.

We want to see boys grow into young men who understand responsibility, respect, emotional maturity, healthy relationships, leadership and the value of contributing positively to their families and communities.

Our vision goes beyond one outreach or one generation.

In the years ahead, we hope that God will help EVAGRIN become a strong voice and a meaningful instrument for protecting, mentoring and equipping young people as they navigate a rapidly changing society, helping to address the challenges of social vices, substance misuse, negative peer influence and other risks that can derail their future.

We are choosing to believe in these children.
We are choosing to invest in their potential.
And we are choosing to remind them that their beginning does not have to determine their ending.

This is why EVAGRIN exists.
