PRESS STATEMENT

APA LEGACY SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE MOURNS THE PASSING OF OUR CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, PROFESSOR DAVID SALIFU

It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that the Board and entire members of the Apa Legacy Sustainability Initiative (ALSI) announce the passing of our esteemed Chairman, Board of Trustees, Professor David Salifu, former Secretary to the Benue State Government, who departed in the early hours of Friday, 3rd July 2026.

Professor David Salifu was an exceptional scholar, administrator, statesman, and mentor whose life was devoted to public service, education, and the advancement of humanity. Until his passing, he was a distinguished lecturer at the Federal University Wukari, where he served meritoriously as Dean of the Faculty of Administration and later rose to become a member of the University's Board of Regents.

Within the Apa Legacy Sustainability Initiative, Professor Salifu provided visionary leadership as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He spearheaded the successful maiden edition of the ALSI Scholarship Programme, creating educational opportunities for deserving students. He also led the second phase of the scholarship initiative with remarkable dedication and championed the empowerment of over 200 people across Benue South through the Initiative. His unwavering commitment to education, youth development, and community empowerment leaves a legacy that will endure for generations.

The circumstances surrounding his untimely death serve as yet another painful reminder of the deteriorating security situation confronting our nation. His passing is not only a monumental loss to his immediate family but also to Benue South, the academic community, countless students whose lives he touched, and everyone who benefited from his wisdom, integrity, leadership, and administrative excellence.

As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, we celebrate a life defined by selfless service, intellectual brilliance, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of society. His legacy will continue to inspire us to pursue the vision he passionately championed.

To his beloved family, we extend our deepest condolences and pray that Almighty God grants you the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss. May He comfort all who mourn him and grant Professor David Salifu eternal rest.

Professor David Salifu's memory will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.

The impact of APA legacy and APA Legacy Sustainability Initiative in my life as an undergraduate.

The Initiative is the first of it's kind with transparency in the disbursement.

I by name is Comrd Aminu Godwin ,I want to testify about the good deed and the outstanding generosity of our father,our political icon. Hon David olofu for this great contribution towards my academic pursuit in the university of Abuja. APA legacy and sustainability Initiative which was pioneer by our father and boss Dr David Olofu has usher me an easy prevailing over some monetary aspect of my life as an undergraduate.

Occasionally,this initiative has earned Dr David Olofu our trust, because this has waved most of our academic challenges and pushed us to revive our academic excellence as well.

We have so many politicians under Zone C, but David Olofu PhD. came through for all the idoma students to finance thier academic struggles and challenges which will always stand as a legacy as well as a seed sowed in our lives.

APA Legacy Sustainability Initiative Scholarship Programme 2024 on My Life and Academic Pursuit as an Undergraduate — My Story of Gratitude

My name is Ede David Adadu a proud son of Ado Local Government Area and a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery at Benue State University, Makurdi.

Sometimes, all a young person needs is a sign that their hard work is seen — that their dreams truly matter.

Through the APA Legacy Sustainability Initiative Scholarship championed by Hon. David Olofu, I was privileged to receive a ₦100,000 scholarship award — part of the ₦10 million fund dedicated to supporting Zone C students.

This support came at a time when I needed it most. It helped me pay for my lecture materials, secure accommodation, and take care of my daily provisions — things that might seem small, but which mean the world to a student determined to stay focused and excel.

Beyond the financial assistance, this scholarship gave me renewed motivation and hope. It reminded me that my efforts are not in vain, and that there are leaders who genuinely believe in the dreams and potential of young people.

I am deeply grateful to Hon. David Olofu for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and educational development. Sir, your generosity and vision are shaping lives and creating opportunities for a brighter future.

The Impact of the APA Legacy Sustainability Initiative Scholarship on My Life and Academic Pursuits.

My name is Elizabeth Awuta from Obagaji, Agatu local government Benue state.A 300Level Mass Communication student of Benue State University know as Father Adasu university Makurd.

Receiving the Hundred Thousand Naira APA Legacy Sustainability Initiative Scholarship was a life-changing moment for me. As a student striving for academic excellence amid financial challenges, this scholarship brought not only financial relief but also renewed motivation and hope.

Before the scholarship, my academic journey was filled with uncertainty. Paying for essential materials such as textbooks, departmental dues, and transportation to school was a constant struggle. I often found myself distracted from my studies due to worries about finances, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to stay focused in class.

The APA scholarship lifted a significant burden off my shoulders. With the funds, I was able to cover key academic expenses, reduce stress, and fully commit to my studies. It allowed me to improve my performance, attend more lectures, complete my assignments on time, and engage more actively in academic discussions.

Today, as our nation marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, we pause not only to celebrate, but also to reflect deeply on where we are and where we are going.

For the people of Benue South, Independence is a reminder of our resilience, our shared struggles, and our enduring contributions to building Nigeria. From the sacrifices of our heroes past to the daily efforts of our farmers, traders, teachers, youth, and elders, we have always stood as a people committed to unity, justice, and progress.

Yet, we must also be honest about the challenges we face: underdevelopment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and the need for greater political inclusion. These are realities that shape our daily lives, but they must never define our future.

Independence Day offers us the opportunity to re-understand our nationhood and renew our faith in democracy not as an abstract idea, but as a system that must deliver for ordinary citizens. Democracy must mean access to good roads, quality education, modern healthcare, opportunities for our youth, and security for every family.

As we celebrate Nigeria @ 65, my prayer and commitment is that the years ahead will be defined by greater development, stronger institutions, and a renewed spirit of unity across Benue South and beyond, driven by purposeful leadership that unites, builds, and innovates to solve problems. Together, we can ensure that the next generation will inherit not only the struggles of the past, but also the promise of a prosperous future.
