Network of Women in Agriculture, Benue State Chapter, inaugurated.
The Environmental and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative has joined other stakeholders in inaugurating the Network of Women in Agriculture, Benue State Chapter, in a move aimed at boosting women’s participation in agriculture and strengthening food security.
The event, held on Tuesday at the RAAMP Conference Centre in Makurdi, brought together government officials, development partners, financial institutions, and women-led organisations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the State Coordinator of NWAN, Iorkusah Dorcas, highlighted the need for collective action in empowering women farmers and improving agricultural productivity. Presentations at the event outlined the network’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.
Goodwill messages from representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Women Affairs, alongside partner organisations, emphasised collaboration, access to finance, and capacity building as key to advancing the agricultural sector.
In a keynote address, the Special Guest of Honour called for innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability, urging women to take up leadership roles across the agricultural value chain.
The high point of the event was the official inauguration of the Benue Chapter by the National Coordinator of NWAN, followed by the swearing-in of newly elected state executives.
The Environmental and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative, represented by its Executive Director, Victoria Esa showcased agro-economic tree seedlings as part of efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture.
Mrs. Esa stressed the importance of tree planting in addressing climate change, improving soil fertility, and creating economic opportunities for farmers. She encouraged women to adopt agroforestry as a sustainable farming practice.
The inauguration is expected to provide a structured platform for women in agriculture, enhance partnerships, and promote sustainable farming practices across Benue State.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks, closing prayer, and a networking session aimed at strengthening collaboration among stakeholders.
