XR Benue holds a Climate action tagged Climate Justice Advocacy and Art Exhibition
The event commenced on November 25, 2024, with a symposium and the opening of the art exhibition was organised to raise awareness about the dynamics of climate change, its effect on local communities, food security, farmer/herder crises, afforestation and management of the environment. Held in collaboration with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Benue State University Makurdi and some NGOs, the event brought together students of the Benue state university, the University of Agriculture Makurdi, lecturers and schoolchildren, as well as government officials who were invited to be part of the event in order to convey XR Benue’s concerns to the government. The advocacy generally focused on the effect of climate change, demonstrating the effect of climate change and the human activities that lead to more degradable conditions in our immediate environment.
The convener, Bart Shinyi, called on the government to abreast itself with the effect of climate change and take steps to mitigate its effect as it is already causing communal crises and food insecurity.
The symposium was followed by an art exhibition.
