Climate Change in Nigeria: Our Call to Action
By Aondongusha Joshua Tsar, CEO โ Greenlight Future Initiative Organization
Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished Guests, and Fellow Advocates,
It is both an honor and a responsibility to speak to you today about one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate changeโa challenge that does not recognize borders, affects every community, and threatens the very foundation of our future.
In Nigeria, the impacts of climate change are no longer distant predictions; they are realities we face daily. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and devastating floods have disrupted our agriculture, strained our water resources, and displaced vulnerable communities. These climate shocks not only threaten our economyโthey jeopardize the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians, especially those in rural areas who depend on farming and natural resources for survival.
At Greenlight Future Initiative Organization, we believe that the fight against climate change is not just a government responsibilityโit is a shared duty. Our organization works to empower communities to adapt, mitigate, and build resilience. Through projects like tree planting initiatives, sustainable farming practices, youth-led climate education, and renewable energy programs, we are demonstrating that climate action is both possible and essential.
Yet, the urgency cannot be overstated. Without immediate and coordinated action, we risk losing not only our ecosystems but also the potential of our young people and the prosperity of our nation. We call on all stakeholdersโgovernment bodies, private sector actors, civil society, and every Nigerian citizenโto join hands in adopting sustainable practices, supporting climate-smart initiatives, and advocating for stronger policies.
As we confront climate change, we must remember: every tree planted, every solar panel installed, every community trained in sustainable practices, and every policy change enacted is a step toward securing a livable future. The choices we make today will define the legacy we leave for generations to come.
At Greenlight Future Initiative Organization, we are committed to lighting the way toward a greener, more resilient Nigeria, where innovation, education, and community action converge to combat climate change. Together, we can turn the tide, restore hope, and ensure that Nigeria becomes a leader in sustainable development on the African continent.
Let us act now, act boldly, and act collectively. Our future depends on it.
Thank you.
