Community Led Facility Readiness Assessment for Lenacapavir PrEP in Benue State

Nynetha, as a key partner in the implementation of the Lenacapavir Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (Len PrEP) long-acting injectable pilot project, participated in the community-led facility readiness assessment in Benue State.

The assessment aimed to ascertain readiness for rollout and covered the following facilities:

1. Federal Medical Centre [FCM], Makurdi
2. Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi
3. FSP Daudu
4. General Hospital North Bank
5. General Hospital Gboko
6. Teaching Hospital Otukpo
7Bishop Murray Medical Center Makurdi(BMMC)

This step is critical to ensuring that facilities and communities are prepared to deliver safe, accessible, and people-centered Len PrEP services.

On the 12th of May ,2026The flag-off of Lenacapavir (LEN) in Benue State marks a significant milestone in the state’s HIV prevention response and demonstrates a renewed commitment to reducing new HIV infections among vulnerable and key populations. It symbolizes hope, innovation, and progress in the fight against HIV, it reflects the collective efforts of government agencies, healthcare workers, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and key population networks working tirelessly to ensure equitable access to HIV prevention services. The intervention is expected to improve prevention uptake, reduce stigma associated with daily medication use, and enhance adherence through its convenient twice-yearly dosing schedule.

Lenacapavir is a long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) administered twice yearly for HIV prevention. The introduction of this intervention provides an additional prevention option for individuals at substantial risk of HIV infection, especially those who may experience challenges with adherence to daily oral PrEP due to stigma, mobility, access barriers, or other socio-economic factors.

Benue State is among the states prioritized for the implementation following readiness assessments and strategic planning at national and sub-national levels

LEN prEP is safe, LEN prEP is free of charge, Len prEP is available in BMMC, FMC, General hospital North bank, General hospital Gboko, St. Vincent Hospital Aliade, Teaching hospital otoukpo, FSP Daudu

NYNETHA Benue in collaboration with concerned women international development initiative, AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF),actively participated in the two days leadership and advocacy skills training for AGYW in Benue State in commemoration of international day of the girl child 2025.
NYNETHA Benue is committed to enhancing advocacy skills for the out of school AGYW( Adolescent girls and young women) in all diversities and effective advocacy for gender transformative approach to AIDS,TB, Malaria not excluding STIs and to improve health outcome.
AHI was glad to be part of the TWG on AGYW.

Nynetha in collaboration NYSC HIV CDS group with support from AHF and NiBUCCA organised a medical outreach for HIV testing and other STIs screening, condooms and lubricant were also shared to 300 young people other medical check up carried out were blood sugar, blood pressure and serious signs of STIs were referred to the AHF wellness clinic for further testing and treatment. The activity was carried out at Tito gate community in Makurdi LGA .
Thanks to all who collaborated to ensure this was a success.
