Happy birthday to an Icon of a new Nigeria Olanrewaju Larry-jay

Agba kii wa loja, ki ori omo tuntun wo.
When elders are present in the marketplace, the head of the young does not go astray.

Ti omode ba subu, a wo iwaju; ti agbalagba ba subu, a wo eyin.
A child looks forward when he falls, but an elder looks behind , for wisdom guides his steps.

Today we celebrate not just your years, but the grace of wisdom, courage, and vision that you embody. You are a man of depth, a leader with flair, a politician well-read, and above all, a passionate Nigerian whose dreams go beyond self to service.

Like the iroko that stands tall in the forest, you have remained unshaken, inspiring others with your strength, resilience, and clarity of purpose. You remind us that leadership is not in titles but in action; not in ambition alone, but in legacy.

As i rejoice with you, i also pray: Ki Ọlọ́run máa sọ ọ́ di agbára fun orilẹ̀-èdè, kí ìmólẹ̀ máa tan lára ọ́ fún gbogbo àwọn tó ń tọ́ ọ́ sẹ́yìn.
Omo won ni Osun Osogbo, arugba orisa,
Osun oni kanga,
Osun oni igbó,
Osun oni lẹ́fọ̀,
Osun oni ẹja,
Osun o ni fi wa sílẹ̀.

May your new age flow like the river Osun , abundant, refreshing, and unending.
Happy Birthday, our great brother and leader.

Nigeria Independence: From Amalgamation to Nationhood.

On October 1, 1960, the Union Jack was lowered and the Green-White-Green flag was raised, announcing Nigeria’s freedom to the world. But Independence was not an event in isolation , it was the climax of a long and complex journey.

The roots of our nation trace back to 1914, when the Northern and Southern Protectorates were amalgamated under Lord Lugard. It was a union crafted by colonial convenience, not by the will of the people. Yet, from that forced marriage emerged a new identity Nigeria.

Through colonial rule, Nigerians endured exploitation, taxation, and cultural disruption. But they also found a new consciousness. The rise of nationalist icons ,Herbert Macaulay, Azikiwe, Awolowo, Bello, Margaret Ekpo, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti turned resistance into a movement. By the 1950s, the clamor for self-rule could no longer be silenced.

When independence finally came in 1960, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa called it “the greatest day in our history.” A day when over 250 ethnic nationalities, with more than 500 languages, stood under one flag reclaiming dignity denied since the 1884 Berlin Conference.

October 1 is not just a holiday. It is a reminder of sacrifice, unity, and unfinished dreams. Independence gave us freedom, but it also gave us responsibility: to build a nation worthy of its promise.

Nigeria’s journey has not been easy ,civil war, military coups, economic turbulence, and democratic struggles have tested us. Yet, each Independence Day is a compass, pointing us back to the ideals of unity, peace, and progress.

Independence was not the end of our story, but the beginning of a greater challenge. Today, as we wave the flag, let us remember: we are heirs of courage, custodians of unity, and architects of Nigeria’s tomorrow.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties through Collaboration and Shared Prosperity.

Today 17th Of September 2025 The Fasasi Youth Foundation (FYF) and the National Youths Inclusive Initiatives (NYII) had the honor of engaging in a strategic meeting with Mr. Gosavi, Country Director of the Federation of Indian Industry.

The meeting was a collaborative outing that underscored the value of shared heritage translating into shared prosperity. Discussions were centered on education and manufacturing as pivotal drivers in tackling poverty, empowering young people, and laying the groundwork for sustainable intergenerational wealth transfer.

We reaffirmed the conviction that democracy is not self-executed but thrives through collective commitment, inclusive dialogue, and purposeful partnerships. The engagement showcased the importance of building enduring legacies through collaboration, while strengthening the bridge of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and India.

This meeting stands as a testament to what can be achieved when institutions across borders work together towards a common vision of progress, inclusion, and shared prosperity.

It was indeed an enlightening and promising outing, and both organizations look forward to deepening this partnership in ways that will positively impact generations to come.

Forging Partnerships for Youth Development in Bayelsa State.

I am thrilled to announce a highly productive meeting today with Williams Dsp Geku The SSO, the Secretary of the Boys Brigade Council, Bayelsa State, and the SSA on Media to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State.

Our discussion centered on a powerful shared vision: establishing an Innovation and Creative Hub for the youth of Bayelsa State. This initiative will specifically aim to empower members of the Boys Brigade, providing them with the skills, tools, and environment necessary to thrive in the modern economy.

This potential collaboration between The Fasasi Youth Foundation (FYF) and the Boys Brigade Council represents a significant step towards our goal of fostering talent, driving innovation, and creating sustainable pathways to prosperity for Bayelsan youth.

We are looking forward to building on this discussion and formalizing a partnership that will deliver tangible, impactful development to the community.

There will be those who say we are marching too fast, who cry out for a return to the past. And there will be those who say we are moving too slow, whose righteous impatience is a fire we all must know. But let us not be defined by the critics on the sidelines. Let us be defined by the courage in our stride. For we are not moved by the fleeting currents of opinion, but by the relentless tide of justice. And so we will keep going. We will walk together, we will work together, until that bright day when the promise of opportunity is made real for all.

Some leaders command attention through title; others, like Mr Sunday Ogedengbe earn it through undeniable action and profound compassion. Your presence on this platform isn't just noted, it is felt. It is a resonating force of support and solidarity.

In a world where many choose the safety of silence, you stand up for what is right without fear. You boldly call out the rejection of fact, the abandonment of reason, and the cynical voices that choose the easy path of negativity over the courageous work of building up. You understand that cynics never achieve much, but visionaries like you change the world.

You are that rare individual: a mathematician with a strategist's mind, paired perfectly with the heart of a core humanitarian. This excellence is your signature.

And so today, I celebrate you. I celebrate your strength, your stalwart compassion, and your incredible humanity. I wish you a lifetime of the same joy and support you so freely give. You deserve all the goodness that life can bring.

Congratulations, my brother.

Celebrating International Youth Day 2025 with Youth Space Africa.

Every year on August 12th, the world comes together to commemorate International Youth Day, a time to celebrate the resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment of young people across the globe. Youth make up more than half of the world’s population, and this statistic represents more than just a number, it symbolizes hope in numbers.

Among these young individuals are doctors, lawyers, engineers, nurses, innovators, and leaders who are actively shaping an ever-evolving world. They are not just the future, they are the now.

In recognition of this vital role, Youth Space Africa,a Pan-African youth platform, was created as a space for young people to go beyond trends and focus on innovation, solutions, and transformation. The platform fosters meaningful dialogue, empowers youth-driven change, and promotes a society where everyone matters and every voice is heard.

As part of this year’s International Youth Day celebration, Youth Space Africa, under the visionary leadership of Chiamaka Nwokeforo the Curator of the space, hosted a timely and impactful discussion centered on:

Harnessing the Digital Space to Bridge Developmental Gaps: The Role of Digital Innovation in Civic Growth."

The discussion highlighted how digital tools like Zoom, Slack, Miro, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Facebook have become more than just communication platforms—they’ve become lifelines, connecting us beyond borders, amplifying our voices, and enabling real-time collaboration for global impact.

While these innovations bring significant opportunities, they also come with their challenges. However, the focus remains on how we can maximize their potential for our collective growth and societal development.

Another key takeaway from the event was the emphasis on the power of collaboration and partnerships in building stronger, more inclusive communities. All thanks to Youth Space Africa for the platform.

Reflecting on an Unforgettable AFNIS2025 Summit.

Last year, I attended the Africa Natural Resources & Energy Summit (AFNIS) and it was such an eye-opening experience that I vowed never to miss another edition. This year’s summit—held at the prestigious Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja—exceeded all expectations: bigger, bolder, and more transformative.

One of the most thought-provoking panels focused on Reimagining Global Taxation for Africa"—a critical conversation about ensuring fair economic systems that work for Africa, not against it. The discussion challenged the outdated narrative of Africa as merely a resource hub for foreign exploitation. Instead, it pushed for true partnerships where investments benefit African economies sustainably, rather than leaving our continent in shambles after extraction.

Another key takeaway? The urgent need for an Afrocentric Energy Policy a framework designed by Africa, for Africa, ensuring that our energy transition aligns with our unique needs and opportunities.

Shoutout to Segilola and other visionary partners who are championing a new era of investment—one that prioritizes Africa’s growth, Africa’s people, and Africa’s future. This is what inclusive, equitable development looks like!

The energy at was electric (pun intended) and I’m leaving even more inspired to drive change. The future of Africa’s natural resources and energy sector is bright, and it’s ours to shape.
