Today, being 3rd June, 2026, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Borno State Branch, with support from the Norwegian Red Cross and NRCS NHQ Abuja, has taken decisive action to combat the recent AWD/Cholera outbreak in Borno State.
As part of its humanitarian response, the Branch donated essential medical consumables to the Borno State Drugs and Medical Consumables Agency (BODMA), including:
i. Examination Handgloves – 2,000 pieces
ii.Face Masks – 500 pieces
iii.Disposable Gloves – 30 pieces
iv.Hand Sanitizers (500ml) – 24 pieces
v. Compound Solution Lacted Intravenous Infusion BP (500ml) – 100 pieces

The donation was formally handed over by Ibrahim Kyari, Branch Health Officer, and received by Mohammed Alhaji Bunu, Chief Store Officer of BODMA.

On the same day, the Branch also donated educational flyers containing key messages on cholera response and preventive measures to the Borno State Primary Health Care Board. Printed in both English and Hausa, these materials are designed to raise awareness, empower communities with lifesaving knowledge, and ensure that information reaches the grassroots level.

This dual intervention - combining medical supplies with community awareness - reflects the Red Cross’ holistic approach to humanitarian response. By equipping health agencies and informing the public, the initiative strengthens resilience and safeguards lives across Borno State.

This month, we donated weapon-wounded kits to the Geidam Specialist Hospital to support the facility’s emergency preparedness and response capacity.

The donation helps ensure the hospital is better equipped to provide timely medical care during emergencies and sudden influxes of patients.

Strengthening the capacity of health facilities remains essential to ensuring people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence can access lifesaving

CEA–AAP Refresher Training | NRCS Borno Branch – May 2025
Over two impactful days in May 2025, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) Borno Branch came together for a Community Engagement & Accountability – AAP Refresher Training, reaffirming our collective commitment to humanitarian principles, inclusivity, and accountability.
The training provided staff with an opportunity to revisit the Fundamental Principles and Code of Conduct, while engaging in dynamic sessions that strengthened knowledge, challenged biases, and inspired renewed dedication to serving communities with dignity and respect.
Day 1 Highlights
The opening day set the tone with a warm welcome and clear objectives from ICRC/NRCS leadership. Facilitator, Patience Nanklin Yusuf guided participants through self-introductions, expectations, and a pre-test, before leading sessions on revisiting CEA Principles and exploring Inclusive Programming.
Alberta Blasu, also, delivered an insightful session on Unconscious Bias & Barriers to Participation, sparking meaningful reflection and dialogue among participants.
Day 2 Highlights
The second day began with a recap by an NRCS facilitator, followed by sessions on Disaggregated Data & Power, the Code of Conduct, and effective strategies for Communicating Key Messages. Participants also explored the link between CEA–AAP and Safer Access, reinforcing the importance of accountability in humanitarian action.
The training concluded with a Collective Way Forward, where participants developed a practical Plan of Action to guide future efforts. Closing remarks and group photographs captured the spirit of unity and determination.
At exactly 16:38 pm, the session came to a close — but the lessons, reflections, and renewed energy will continue to shape our work.
This refresher training was more than just a learning exercise; it was a reaffirmation of our shared values and a reminder that inclusivity, accountability, and humanitarian principles remain at the heart of everything we do.
