Restoring our environment is not a one-day effort, but World Environment Day reminds us why we must never stop trying. In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, ARISE participated in the event held at Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, joining partners, government institutions, civil society organisations, and community stakeholders united by one purpose: to take action for our environment.

From tree planting to waste collection, environmental sensitisation to climate education, the commemoration was filled with meaningful activities that reminded us all that sustainability is not a distant goal. It is something we build together, one action at a time, right here in our communities.

As an organisation rooted in community resilience, ARISE is committed to showing up for people and for the planet. Because when our environment is healthy, our communities are healthy too.

ARISE participated in a 5-day Disability Inclusion hands-on capacity-building training on digital literacy and information, organized by HURICAP.

The training was designed to equip participants with practical skills in data collection and management, with a strong focus on inclusive approaches for hard-to-reach and marginalized communities.

Key tools covered during the training included KoBoToolbox for digital data collection, QGIS for spatial analysis and mapping, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and visualization. The sessions were highly practical and aimed at strengthening participants’ capacity to effectively gather, analyze, and utilize data for evidence-based decision-making in inclusive development contexts.

Overall, the training enhanced participants’ digital competencies and strengthened their ability to apply these tools in real world field settings, particularly within disability inclusive programming and community-based data systems.

Yesterday, staff joined residents of Khaddamari Ward, Jere LGA, Borno State, to clear blocked drains, remove waste, and clean up shared community spaces in commemoration of World Environment Day.

Clogged drains and uncollected waste are not small problems. They breed disease, create hazards, and quietly erode the dignity of everyday life. Every community deserves better than that.

A clean environment is not just about aesthetics. It is about dignity, health, and the wellbeing of every person who calls Khaddamari home.

At ARISE, we remain committed to walking alongside communities in every effort that makes life safer and more dignified for the people we serve. 🌍💚

Last month, our team joined fellow humanitarian actors for a four-day capacity-building training on the Child Protection Law and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law.

These laws were not written in isolation. They were shaped by the lived realities of people across Northeast Nigeria- children growing up amid conflict, women navigating violence and displacement, families struggling under poverty and harmful social norms.

The law defines a child as any person under 18 years of age, without exception. And every decision that affects that child, by a parent, a court, a government agency, or a community leader, must be guided first and foremost by the child's best interest. But strong laws are only as effective as the awareness surrounding them. That is what drives our work at the community level.

Through our community-level work, we continue to translate these frameworks into knowledge that people can actually use:

1-Every child has an enforceable right to protection, survival, development, participation, and dignity, not as ideals, but as legal guarantees.

2-Harm is not only physical. Emotional, psychological, and intellectual damage are all recognised forms of abuse under the law.

3-Consent obtained through force, fear, fraud, or intimidation is not consent, and the law treats it accordingly.

4-Children affected by conflict have specific protections against recruitment, exploitation, and displacement.

5-Victims of violence have the right to protection, legal remedy, and compensation, and communities deserve to know how to access these rights.

When we understand the law, we are better equipped to apply it.

ARISE - Youth Women & Children successfully conducted an in-house training for its staff on Child Safeguarding, Child Protection, and Child Participation as part of our continuous commitment to ensuring the highest standards of care, protection, and support for the children we serve.

The training provided staff with knowledge and practical skills on safeguarding principles, recognizing and responding to child protection concerns, preventing harm, and promoting meaningful child participation in programs and activities.

At ARISE, we recognize that every staff member has a responsibility to protect children and uphold their rights.

Together, we are building safer spaces and brighter futures for every child.
