Strengthening Capacity, Protecting Children.

Last week, Resilience and Opportunity Aid Foundation (ROAF) conducted an internal capacity-strengthening session on Child Protection and Reintegration, aimed at enhancing our team’s knowledge, skills, and practical capacity to better protect and support children affected by conflict and displacement.

The session was made possible with the support of Grow Strong Foundation a valued national partner supporting ROAF with human resources and capacity development under our Protection Area of Responsibility (AoR).

We sincerely appreciate Djauro Hammadeena for facilitating such an insightful and impactful session. Your expertise and commitment continue to strengthen our collective efforts to place the rights, safety, dignity, and wellbeing of children at the centre of our humanitarian response.

For ROAF, capacity strengthening is more than training—it is an investment in stronger systems, better protection outcomes, and a safer future for children living in conflict-affected communities.

Together, we continue to build a protection response that is locally led, child-centred, accountable, and conflict-sensitive.

ECO-CHAMPION OF TOMORROW – PHASE II | PROJECT CLOSEOUT

Last week, the Resilience and Opportunity Aid Foundation (ROAF) convened a project closeout meeting for the ECO-Champion of Tomorrow – Phase II, bringing together our implementing partner, Nkamson Charity Foundation alongside community members and other key stakeholders.

The closeout provided an important opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements, lessons learned, community experiences, and the changes generated through collective climate action.
Beyond measuring what we accomplished, the meeting focused on one critical question: How do we sustain the impact beyond the life of the project?

Through open dialogue and shared reflection, participants explored pathways for strengthening community ownership, sustaining environmental actions, promoting youth-led climate initiatives, and ensuring that the knowledge, skills, and practices developed through the project continue to benefit communities.

The ECO-Champion of Tomorrow initiative demonstrates that meaningful climate action does not have to begin with large institutions—it can start with young people, women, communities, and locally led organisations taking action where they live.

As we close this phase, we remain committed to building on the lessons, partnerships, and community leadership established through the project and advancing a future where vulnerable communities are not only resilient to climate challenges but are also active leaders in creating sustainable solutions.

The project may be closing, but the action continues. 🌍💚

Together, we are building communities that are resilient, environmentally conscious, inclusive, and equipped to champion climate justice.

Our Executive Director was privileged and honoured to join young people at the Northeast Youth in Crises Confab 4.0 in Yola last week.

The conference provided a platform for young people to discuss and deliberate on issues affecting their participation in governance and the humanitarian architecture. Participants also presented their seven-point agenda, which includes improved access to funding opportunities, meaningful youth participation, and youth leadership in humanitarian coordination.

The Deputy of governor Hon. kaletapwa farauta of Adamawa state was in attendance to encourage young people and to assure the government support all the time.

We are proud to support young people as they continue to shape solutions, influence decision-making, and lead efforts toward a more inclusive, responsive, and resilient Northeast.

🌍 GLOBAL WEEK OF CLIMATE ACTION | BORNO STATE

Last week, our team, in partnership with the Borno State Ministry of Environment, Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall, Borno Coordinated Climate Response, youth-led organisations, climate activists, and community movements, joined communities across Borno State to commemorate the Global Week of Climate Action.

Together, we took climate action beyond conference rooms and into streets, parks, and tertiary institutions, engaging young people, students, and community members through awareness activities on climate change, climate justice, environmental protection, and climate-related risks.

The campaign provided an opportunity to amplify local voices, strengthen climate awareness, and encourage communities—particularly young people—to become active agents of environmental protection and climate resilience.

🌱 Climate action starts with awareness, but it must lead to action.
From cleaner communities to stronger climate resilience, every action counts. Together, we can build a more sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient Borno.

Last week, in Wulari Jerusalem and Abbaganaram community of Jere Maiduguri, under the ECO-Champion of Tomorrow Project, funded by the BoT Fund, we strengthened community capacity for climate action, environmental sustainability, and green livelihoods.

As part of the initiative, we trained 50 female-headed households in briquette production, transforming waste materials into alternative energy products while creating opportunities for sustainable income generation. We also supported 30 participants with market linkages to strengthen access to customers and build viable green enterprises.

In addition, 90 young people were trained on Waste-to-Wealth initiatives, plastic up cycling and recycling and equipping them with practical skills to transform waste into valuable products while promoting responsible waste management, recycling, reuse, and a circular economy.

These interventions demonstrate that climate action can also be an opportunity for economic empowerment. By investing in young people and vulnerable households, we are contributing to cleaner communities, reduced environmental pollution, sustainable livelihoods, and stronger community resilience to climate and environmental challenges.

🌍 Waste is not just a problem—it can become a resource, a livelihood, and a pathway to a greener future.

Last week, our team paid a courtesy visit to the Center for Community Awareness and youth Empowerment Initiative as part of our efforts to strengthen collaboration, build strategic partnerships, and explore opportunities for joint action in addressing pressing challenges affecting communities.

The engagement provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and identify areas of mutual interest, particularly in Mine Action, Climate Action, Governance, Youth Empowerment, Peacebuilding, and Community Resilience.

At ROAF, we believe that meaningful and sustainable change is achieved through locally led solutions, strong partnerships, community participation, and youth-driven action. By working together with like-minded organizations, we can strengthen community capacities, promote inclusive governance, advance peace and social cohesion, and support communities to better understand and respond to climate and humanitarian risks.

We look forward to deepening this partnership and translating shared commitments into practical initiatives that create safer, more inclusive and resilient communities.
