🚨 Borno Cholera Situation Update | 7 July 2026

The cholera outbreak in Borno State continues to escalate, with the latest reports indicating a significant increase in cases and geographic spread since the previous update shared on 27 June 2026.

📈 Key Updates:
• Suspected cases have increased from 13,234 to 28,082, representing a 112% rise over the last 10 days.
• Reported deaths have risen from 108 to 143, an increase of 32%.
• The number of affected LGAs has grown from 17 to 20, meaning 74% of Borno State's 27 LGAs are now impacted by the outbreak.

In response, MAVPI continues to support cholera prevention efforts through community sensitization and awareness campaigns across its implementation areas, including Rann, Magumeri, and Dikwa.

As the outbreak remains active and appears to be at or near its peak, sustained vigilance and continued support for frontline response teams remain critical, particularly in Dikwa, Magumeri, and Monguno.

Together, through coordinated action, community engagement, and timely response, we can help reduce transmission and save lives.

A Cup of Life

Under the hot sun, little Musa returned from a long walk carrying water for his family. He was thirsty and ready to drink immediately. Just then, his mother stopped him and said, “Wait, Musa. Water may look clean, but germs that cause cholera can hide inside.”

She boiled the water, stored it in a clean container, and served it in a clean cup. Musa drank safely and felt refreshed.

A few days later, some people in a nearby community became sick with severe diarrhea because they drank unsafe water. Musa’s family remained healthy because they followed simple rules: drink safe water, wash hands with soap, and keep water containers clean and covered.

Safe drinking water saves lives. Protect your family from cholera by treating water before drinking, storing it safely, and practicing good hygiene. Every clean cup of water is a cup of life.
