A Visit to Amb. Usman Aliyu : Strengthening Environmental Synergy in Borno
In my capacity as an environmentalist, Regional Director of the African Climate Change Research Centre- Maiduguri (ACCREC) and Pioneer Chairman of the Borno Green Growers Association, the umbrella body of horticulturists across the state, I had the distinct privilege of paying a courtesy visit to Amb. Usman Aliyu, Director General of the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall (BOAGGW). A stalwart advocate for environmental preservation and a commanding voice in the climate action discourse of Borno. Amb. Usman has long exemplified the spirit of resilience and innovation in ecological leadership.
The visit served as both a personal gesture of congratulations and a professional reaffirmation of shared ideals in environmental advancement. As a longtime associate in the collective mission for climate resilience, I took the moment to commend him of his unflagging dedication to ecological stewardship, which has not only set a new benchmark in regional conservation but is also laying the foundation for Borno’s emergence as a bastion of biodiversity and sustainable development.
His leadership has been marked by purposeful initiatives, ranging from afforestation drives to empowering youth through climate-smart agriculture, all firmly rooted in sustainable land use and environmental justice.
It is, without doubt, an attestation to the foresight of His Excellency! Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, the executive governor of Borno State that such a visionary was entrusted with the helm of BOAGGW. Our meeting culminated in a forward-looking dialogue that proposed a strategic partnership between BOAGGW and the Borno Green Growers Association.
This alliance is envisioned as a catalyst in the actualization of the Governor’s ambitious environmental blueprint, one centered on restoration, resilience and regenerative growth.
With a shared commitment and a unified agenda, we remain confident in our collective capacity to reposition Borno as a model of climate resilience not only within Nigeria but across the Sahel region.
