Youth Engagement in AU’s Global Agenda: Shaping Africa’s Narrative

The Pan African Young Diplomats Forum (PAYDF) recently convened a high-level mentorship session featuring Ambassador Frederick Gateret Ngoga, Senior Advisor on International Partnerships at the African Union.

The session provided critical insights into Africa’s evolving peace and security landscape, highlighting that the continent currently accounts for a significant share of global conflicts, reinforcing the urgency for stronger coordination, unity, and forward-looking policy responses.

Ambassador Ngoga emphasized:
* The need to strengthen international law and governance frameworks
* The role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in driving stability through economic integration
* The importance of a reimagined common African defence approach
* The urgency of Pan-African unity in safeguarding Africa’s global interests

A key highlight of the session was the emphasis on youth as strategic actors in advancing Africa’s peace and security agenda. The African Union’s ongoing efforts, including the Youth, Peace and Security Programme and the implementation of Agenda 2063, were discussed as critical entry points for youth engagement.

As PAYDF continues to provide platforms for meaningful dialogue, this engagement reinforces our commitment to equipping young Africans with the knowledge, networks, and opportunities to shape the continent’s future.
