*AWLA Nigeria Kogi Branch Joins Global Push to End Digital Violence Against Women and Children*
The Kogi State branch of the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Nigeria has officially thrown its weight behind the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender‑Based Violence, aligning with the UNiTE campaign that calls for an end to digital violence against women and girls.
On 26th November, 2025 AWLA Nigeria Kogi Branch Public Relations Officer, AWLAN Toyin Mercy Joshua, was featured on the popular weekly info-conversation radio programme - The Law in Perspective, hosted by the Directorate of Gender‑Based Violence in the Kogi State Ministry of Justice.
Barr. Mercy, while responding to questions during the live broadcast, outlined AWLA Nigeria's objectives in alignment with eliminating Gender Based Violence and urged listeners to join the movement to make the digital space safer for women and children especially girls.
Across Nigeria she noted that, the rise of internet‑facilitated or technologically-facilitated abuse against women has become a pressing concern. Various reports point to online harassment, sextortion, non‑consensual sharing of intimate images and cyber‑stalking as threats and limitations to women’s dignity and active participation in public life.
The 2025 16 Days of Activism, themed “UNiTE! to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” underscores the urgency of addressing these novel gender‑based violence.
AWLA Nigeria Kogi therefore, pledges improved legal aid services to survivors and urges stakeholders to be relentless in their collaboration to end the menace of any form of GBV, improve reporting mechanisms and support survivors.
Concluding the interview, she urged Kogi residents, especially parents and guardians, to become active allies: “Digital Violence against Women and girls is a violation of fundamental human rights, let’s unite to take the campaign from door to door in order to protect our women and children both in the physical world and in the digital space.”
The radio episode is part of a broader series of activities marking the 16‑day campaign, which runs from 25th November to 10th December, 2025.
AWLA Nigeria Kogi Branch's participation highlights the vital role of the Association in shaping a safer, more inclusive digital environment for all Nigerian and African women and children.
