ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility Organization (PETpro), Community Action Against Plastic Waste (CAPws), and Emerging Generation Initiative (EGI) are excited to announce a new partnership to launch the Taka Biashara Youth Innovation Academy (TBYIA) a transformative program empowering youth, women, and persons living with disabilities (PLWD) in Tanzania’s circular economy.

This 3-month blended academy will provide 50 young changemakers from Dar es Salaam and Pwani with training, mentorship, policy engagement, and practical placements in the reuse economy, recycling, and circular innovations.

Together, we aim to drive inclusive innovation, sustainable entrepreneurship, and climate action across communities.

OKITIPUPA REUSE ECONOMY STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT| CAPws, Break Free From Plastic (BFFP), and the OAUSTECH Centre for Research and Development yesterday held stakeholder engagement with representatives from the Ondo State MDAs, Bank of Industry (BOI), Informal Waste Pickers, SMEs, Recyclers, the university community etc to co-create community-led solutions for reuse and refill systems in Okitipupa and Ondo State as whole.

The aim of the workshop is to envision a future free of plastic pollution across Ondo State through locally led solutions through collaboration by all stakeholders.

We are very excited about what the future holds!

This is an exact description of one step forward, ten steps backwards by the Lagos State Government. WtE is never a solution!

Waste-to-energy incineration is not a solution!⛔️👀

We're deeply concerned about Lagos State's decision to build a waste-to-energy incinerator. Here is what you need to know:

➡Waste-to-energy incineration is not renewable energy—and instead takes investments away from renewable energy solutions.

➡Waste-to-energy incinerators produce the same toxic emissions as ordinary incinerators.

➡Waste-to-energy incinerators contribute to climate change.

➡Waste-to-energy incineration is not a suitable way of energy generation.

➡Africa's waste steam is predominantly organic and not combustible.

➡Waste-to-energy undermines and displaces waste pickers.

➡Waste-to-energy incinerators are prohibitively expensive.

➡Waste-to-energy incinerators waste resources and undermine recycling and reduction efforts.

➡Waste-to-energy incineration is not compatible with a sustainable circular economy. It promotes a linear economy.

➡The world is shifting away from incineration and embracing zero waste.
