It's the International Literacy Day celebration 2026!

What happens when a book becomes a bridge?

On August 27,2026 the pages of Conflict of Interest by Michael Oyinloye became a starting point for what became another remarkable book club session at the Female Custodial Facility, Kirikiri.

Through Bridging Gaps, AIFA in partnership with CELSIR brought together 72 participants for a day that went far beyond reading.

We talked about justice and the justice system.
We questioned our choices.
We shared honest reflections

But perhaps the most powerful part was what happened between the pages: connection.

Connection between stories and lived experiences.
Between people on different sides of a wall.

Because sometimes, a book does more than tell a story.

It opens a conversation.
It challenges what we think we know.
It creates room for empathy.
And, every once in a while, it becomes a bridge.

This is why we read. ❤️📚
