Strengthening Youth Leadership for Safer Communities: YADAN Community Engagement Update

Today, the Youth Against Drug Abuse Network (YADAN) team engaged with the Ado-Odo/Ota Youth in Development at the Zonal Community Development Council (CDC) Office, Ado-Odo/Ota, as part of our ongoing efforts to build a community-driven prevention system against drug abuse and related social challenges.

The engagement provided an opportunity to share the vision of YADAN, discuss the role of young people in prevention, and explore pathways for meaningful youth participation in building resilient, healthy, and productive communities.

We are encouraged by the enthusiasm, openness, and willingness of young leaders to contribute to this movement. The journey towards sustainable prevention begins with empowering communities, strengthening local networks, and creating safe spaces where young people can thrive.

As we continue the implementation of the YADAN Community Prevention Systems Framework (Y-CPSF), we remain committed to working alongside community structures, youth organisations, stakeholders, and partners to develop evidence-informed solutions that protect young people and promote positive futures.

The progress is gradual, but the foundation is being laid — one community, one partnership, and one young person at a time.

Dear Friends and Future Changemakers,
My name is Anthony Odesheyi, and as the Executive Director of the Temitayo Tejoun Development Foundation for Sustainable Futures (TTDFSF), I am personally inviting you to join us on a journey that is transforming lives across Nigeria and the African continent.

WHY TTDFSF URGENTLY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS.

We are a grassroots, youth-driven foundation committed to building sustainable futures through education, quality healthcare access, economic empowerment, environmental conservation, digital skills training, and community development.

Every year, we plan to reach thousands of children, women, and young people with life-changing programmes – from free medical outreaches and school scholarships to tree-planting campaigns and entrepreneurial training.

BUT HERE IS THE TRUTH: WE CANNOT DO IT ALONE.

Our resources, though growing, are still limited. Government support is inconsistent, and donor funding covers only a fraction of the need. The communities we serve – especially in underserved rural and urban slums – are vast.

To scale our impact from hundreds to millions, we need passionate hands, hearts, and minds who believe that one person’s time and talent can ignite generational change.

Volunteers are not “extra help” at TTDFSF – they are the heartbeat of our mission. They multiply our reach, bring fresh ideas, and ensure our programmes remain community-owned and culturally relevant.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR – TYPES OF PEOPLE WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life. You do not need to be an expert; you only need to care deeply.

SPECIFICALLY WE ARE CALLING ON:

Educators & Teachers – to mentor students, facilitate digital skills workshops, and run after-school clubs.

Healthcare Professionals (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab scientists) – for our free medical outreaches and health education campaigns.

Environmental Enthusiasts & Agronomists – to lead tree-planting drives, climate action workshops, and sustainable farming projects.

Business & Finance Experts – to train women and youth in entrepreneurship, bookkeeping, and access to micro-credit.

Digital & Tech Talents (content creators, graphic designers, web developers, data analysts) – to amplify our stories and build tech solutions for communities.

Youth Leaders & Students – to mobilise peers, run school clubs, and champion voter education/PVC registration drives.

Marketers, Fundraisers & Storytellers – to help us reach more donors and tell the powerful stories of lives changed.

Legal & Administrative Professionals – to support compliance, grant writing, and smooth operations.

ANYONE WITH A HEART OF SERVICE – photographers, drivers, cooks, prayer warriors, translators – every skill is valuable!

The life-changing benefits of volunteering with TTDFSF.
When you serve humanity with your resources, experience, skills, and talents at TTDFSF, you receive far more than you give:

✅ Personal fulfilment – the unmatched joy of seeing a child read for the first time, a mother start her own business, or a barren land turn green.

✅ Skill development & leadership growth – real-world experience that strengthens your CV and opens doors to international opportunities.

✅ Lifelong network – connect with like-minded changemakers, donors, and professionals across Nigeria and the diaspora.

✅ Certificate & Recognition – official TTDFSF Volunteer Certificate plus public appreciation at our annual awards.

✅ Tax benefits (for those in Nigeria) – donations of time, money, or materials are tax-deductible under relevant laws.

✅ Legacy – your name and impact become part of a movement that future generations will remember.

✅ Spiritual & emotional renewal – serving others brings peace, purpose, and divine favour that no salary can match.

Your one hour, one skill, or one naira can break the cycle of poverty forever.

If you are ready to move from spectator to solution-provider, I am personally waiting to welcome you.

🌟 A Win for Human Rights & Access to Justice in Lagos! 🌟

At Temitayo Tejoun Development Foundation for Sustainable Futures (TTDFSF), we stand firm in our mission to advocate for human rights, promote social justice, and protect human dignity — especially when vulnerable individuals face unlawful detention or abuse of power.

Recently, we intervened in a case where a woman was unlawfully detained at a Lagos police station over a purely civil business dispute from 2014. Despite substantial payments already made in good faith and no criminal elements involved, she was held beyond the constitutional 48-hour limit without being charged or brought before a court.

Our team:
Submitted a formal advocacy letter citing relevant laws (ACJA 2015, 1999 Constitution) and TTDFSF’s constitutional mandate.

Engaged a lawyer for on-ground support.
Monitored the situation closely and escalated where needed.

Outcome: Bail was accepted, an amicable out-of-court resolution was reached, and she is now safely home with her family — no conviction, no further detention.

This victory reminds us:
Civil matters belong in civil courts, not police cells.

Early, lawful advocacy can change lives.

Together — citizens, NGOs, and responsive institutions — we can protect fundamental rights.

We remain committed to empowering communities, educating on rights during arrests, and fighting unlawful detention wherever it occurs.

If you or someone you know faces similar injustice, reach out. TTDFSF is here for you.
