A native of Nigeria, Miracle Amah is a librettist and a soprano presently based in the United States. She performs various genres of music which includes opera, art songs, oratorios, popular music, contemporary music, negro spirituals, jazz music, etc. Dr. Amah has played major roles in several opera productions. Her staged performances include scenes, full Opera productions and short performances in Nigeria, Canada, Germany, Russia, Dubai and in the United States.

Dr. Amah maintains a professional singing career as she writes lyrics and premiers new compositions by Nigerian and African composers. Appended to her credentials are a doctoral degree in Vocal Performance, Pedagogy and Literature from James Madison University, a Master’s degree in Opera and Vocal performance from the Longy School of Music, a Licentiate with the Associated board of the royal school of music (ABRSM) in vocal performance (LRSM); which is a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance, and two associate degrees in Vocal Performance from the Mountain top Conservatory and the MUSON Diploma School of Music.

Right from the inception of her career in Nigeria and now as an international artist, Miracle has performed with different choirs, making a number of international choir trips. Some of which includes the 9th Johannes Brahms International Choral Festival in Wernigerode, Germany in July 2015, where she won a gold medal with the Mountain Top Chorale (MTC) as a member of the choir and also as a Soloist. Exactly a year after that, she won two gold laurels with the same choir at the Interkultur World Choir Games Competition that took place in Sochi, Russia.

In 2016, she was awarded four awards by the Musical Society of Nigeria: The Mrs. Francesca Emmanuel Prize for Best Female Operatic singer, the Bode Emmanuel Award for best Female singer, the Dr. Mrs. Femi Akinkugbe Prize award for Voice, and the Mr. Joseph Oparamanuike Graduate Opera Award. From the fall of 2017 till the spring of 2019, she was one of the soprano soloists with the Longy Women’s Chorus, Cambridge, Massachusetts. In February 2020, Miracle won first position in the VA-NATS competition in her category. Also, in February 2021, she won first place in the same competition at a higher category.

Dr. Amah has given lectures and masterclasses at colleges, institutions, schools and churches, around the world. She taught at the MountainTop Conservatory of music, Lagos, Nigeria where she was an Assistant Professor teaching vocal techniques. Included in her portofolio is working with different choirs from several locations around the world. She has also given talks in conferences that address racism and diversity issues in academia. Her presentations include discussions about African music and vocal repertoire with topics that target performance practice and diversifying classical music; this included a recital featuring Nigerian music and highlighting several languages and genres. She recently published four short books, and her dissertation titled Decolonizing and Enriching Opera. In November 2022, she co-wrote a book titled “Essays on Miles Davis” and this has been published and currently sold on Amazon. Her most recent publication is “Instrumental Passion: Inspiring Words by the Music Makers in My Life” (2024), She co-wrote this book with Carolyn Zeytoonian and other authors. Presently, she is a voice professor at Illinois Central College, Peoria, Illinois.

It is with great honor that we welcome Dr. Laura Storm to this week’s edition of our Lift Every Voice Masterclass series taking place this Thursday, 17th July 2025 on Zoom.

Soprano Laura Storm is a devoted pedagogue and an active performer of stage, concert, and
chamber repertoire. Opera and musical theater performances include the title role in Puccini’s
Suor Angelica at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Salerno, Italy; Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus; Alice Ford in Falstaff; The Governess in The Turn of the Screw; Penelope Pennywise in Urinetown; Golde in Fiddler on the Roof; Desirée Armfeldt in A Little Night Music; and Nellie Forbush in the South Pacific.

She is a former prize-winner in the Concurso Internacional de Canto Lírico in Trujillo, Peru, and has performed concerts with the Trujillo Symphony, the Pine Bluff Symphony and was featured
as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Tallahassee Symphony.

Dr. Storm is a founding member of the Storm Trio, an ensemble specializing in music for soprano,
clarinet, and piano, which has performed throughout the United States including concerts in California, Nevada, Texas, Wisconsin, and Tennessee.

As a clinician Dr. Storm has worked with students at venues in Texas, California, and Nevada, and in 2019 she presented Master Classes at Hebei Art Academy in Shijiazhuang, China and
Guizhou University in Guiyang, China as part of a student/faculty cultural exchange.

Currently, Dr. Storm is a member of the voice faculty at Butler University. She previously served as Professor of Voice at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she taught Studio Voice, Lyric Diction, Vocal Pedagogy, and Voice Methods. As a student of yoga and the Alexander Technique, Dr. Storm loves integrating these disciplines into her teaching and guiding students toward a deeper understanding of their physical and expressive resources as singing artists. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and holds degrees from Florida State University (DMA), the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM), and Austin Peay State University (BA).

Hailed as a marvelous artist and baritone, Jeffrey Ray has been lauded by critics and presenters for his distinctive, warm, expressive voice and charming personality. Jeffrey Ray is an alumnus of DePaul University’s School of Music and Manhattan School of Music, as well as Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, now the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center.

Jeffrey has performed as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fischer Hall. He has sung with the Berlin Rundfunks Orchester and the Munich Bach Festival and has been featured at the Ravinia Festival as well as the Opera Festival of Chicago. He has received awards from the American Opera Society, American-Berlin Opera Foundation, Bel Canto Foundation, Museum Carolino Augusteum-Salzburg, Austrian-American Society, Cliff Dwellers, and the Union League Club, where he has also served as a judge for the Luminarts Cultural Foundation
