Mabel Segun Foundation Mourns the Passing of Literary Icon Mabel Segun
The Mabel Segun Foundation deeply mourns the passing of our beloved founder, literary icon, and cultural pioneer, Mabel Segun. A distinguished writer, poet, educator, and advocate for children’s literature. Mabel Segun’s impact on African literature and education remains immeasurable.
The family will announce funeral arrangements in due course, and we ask for privacy during this time as we honour her extraordinary life and legacy.
In tribute to her enduring contributions to literature and education, the Mabel Segun
Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to preserve and advance her vision. We invite support for the following initiatives dedicated to continuing her legacy:
1. The Mabel Segun Prize for Children's Literature: This annual award, to be presented every February at the Mabel Segun Conference, will celebrate excellence in African children’s literature, ensuring that young readers continue to have access to powerful and inspiring stories.
2. Mabel Segun Schools Outreach Program : Aimed at fostering a love for reading and creative expression among schoolchildren, this program will provide literary workshops, book donations, and mentorship opportunities to nurture the next generation of writers and readers.
3. The Cataloguing of Mabel Segun’s Papers: To safeguard her literary and intellectual contributions, the foundation is undertaking the meticulous preservation and organization of Mabel Segun’s manuscripts, letters, and archival materials for future scholars and readers.
We call upon literary enthusiasts, educational institutions, cultural organizations, and
well-wishers to support these projects in memory of Mabel Segun’s invaluable contributions to literature and education.
