LENS (Lasting Empowerment for the Nigerian Society) believes in an old adage: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. What LENS aims is to empower the influential groups - youth, women and children - in the society. Once these sections of the society are empowered with resources and capacity building programs, the community will automatica
lly become empowered. The aims and objectives of LENS are:
1. To develop and spread the idea of friendship and fraternity among the people.
2. To raise the voice against exploitation, injustice and corruption if found against any individual or community in the society.
3. To educate the people on adopting the good norms of a good citizen and to work for spreading the ideas of nationality among the people.
4. To work for uplifting status of the women in the society. To stand against any form of violence and victimization of girl/women by anybody in the society.
5. To stand against child/early marriage and work towards keeping young girls in school
6. To provide help to young & helpless girls already in marriage as well as empower them to be self-sustaining.
7. To help and generate training programme for self-employment of women and unemployed citizens and to work for adult education.
8. To create the means for providing medical assistance to helpless people suffering from diseases.
9. To enlighten citizens on the need for preventive health care.
10. To facilitate the opening of local and town centre libraries and reading rooms.
11. To create training/education centre and health care centre.
12. To organize blood donation camp and medical diagnostic camp.
13. To publish newspaper, magazine, journals and to reproduce works of arts, literature, science, crafts and other allied works/collections of works of arts for instruction and impartation of useful knowledge.
14. To provide help/shelter/facilities for old people, children and disabled people for their welfare (inclusiveness).
15. To work for uplifting poor rural/village people for their all-round development.
16. Provide scholarship/financial help to poor rural/village people for their all-around development.
17. To provide help to people suffering from natural disasters such as flood, earthquakes, fire outbreaks, rail/road accidents etc.
18. To provide free legal advice to poor, intimidated and oppressed people.
19. To create awareness among the people regarding AIDS, EBOLA.
20. To educate people against drug abuse.
21. To stand against child/human trafficking
22. To work for the preservation of old valuable scripture and historical places.
23. Funds through collection, donation or subscription and other means and invest money or incur expenditure in such manner as shall promote the attainment of aims and objectives of LENS.
24. Enable youth to acquire such knowledge, skills and techniques which will help them in their personal and social growth as well as foster in them a sensitivity towards problems in the community
25. Promote national integration and international understanding by developing youth leadership and providing a forum for youth from diverse background.
26. Promote research activities and support talented youths with such interest.
27. To stand and support tree plantation and pollution control.
28. To significantly impact the development of youth worldwide through cultural enrichment programs that increase their perspective, awareness, and appreciation for others.
29. To teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace.
30. To increase the capacity of community agencies and organizations to provide prevention and intervention services and activities to all youth
31. To identify, engage and sustain youth in positive activities
32. To maintain close links and collaborate with other organisations with similar aims and objectives anywhere in the world.
33. To campaign for the full implementation of human rights - particularly, cultural, economic and social rights.
34. Training Programs: Conducting training programs for youth across a wide spectrum of developmental activities. The issues are mainly: Leadership & Personality Development, Entrepreneurship Development and Awareness, Training program on NGO Management, Fund Raising, Disaster Management, Water Conservation, Women Empowerment, Communication Skills, Prevention of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism and so on.
35. Conferences, Seminars and Workshops: Organizing national and international level seminars and conferences on subjects of concern. Generally the issues are Right to Information Act; Utilization of Government Schemes, Youth and Peace; Women Empowerment; Promotion of Voluntarism and so on.
36. Research & Documentation: Recognizing the paucity of authentic data on subjects of relevance to the youth, the LENS, through a sense of responsibility, will continually engaged itself in research, although on a modest scale. Studies encompassing various social development issues will be completed by LENS.
37. To do such other work that may be for the general welfare of the people.
