For far too long, the pain of African women living with endometriosis has been misunderstood, dismissed, and underrepresented. The misconception that endometriosis is uncommon among African women has contributed to delayed diagnosis, limited access to care, and a lack of research across the continent.

Many women continue to suffer in silence — not because their pain is rare, but because awareness, access, and conversations around menstrual health remain limited.

This Africa Day, we honour the strength, courage, and resilience of African women living with endometriosis. 💜🌍
Your pain is real.
Your voice matters.
You deserve to be heard, diagnosed, supported and cared for.

Through awareness, education, advocacy, and open conversations, we can help break the stigma surrounding menstrual health and improve endometriosis care in Africa.

You are seen.
You are celebrated.
You are not alone.

Happy Africa Day!

Nobody tells you that endometriosis doesn't just live in your body, it moves into your mind too.

The anxiety before every period, the grief that comes with infertility, the regret of cancelled plans.... or the fear of planning. What about the exhaustion of explaining pain that doesn't show on a scan. The quiet shame of feeling "too much" for the people around you.
This is not weakness. This is what happens when your body is fighting a chronic war and nobody gave you the manual.

Your mental health is not separate from your diagnosis, It is a part of it and, it deserves just as much care, compassion, and attention as any other symptom.

You are not falling apart. You'll be alright. You are not alone🎗

Happy Mental Health Week!

🚨 Women’s Health Update: PCOS Has Been Renamed 🚨

After about 14 years of global consultation involving researchers, clinicians, and people living with the condition, Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is now officially being renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

Why does this matter?

✨️PCOS has long been primarily perceived as a gynaecological or ovarian disorder. However, mounting research, evidence synthesis, and International Guidelines have shown that PCOS is underpinned by endocrine disturbances in insulin, androgens, neuroendocrine and ovarian hormones.

✨️As such, the term “PCOS” has been criticized for being misleading. Many people with the condition do not actually have ovarian cysts; the name failed to reflect the broader hormonal, metabolic, reproductive, dermatological and psychological features of the disease.

✨️Research led by Prof. Helena Teede, published yesterday in The Lancet revealed that the old terminology contributed to delayed diagnosis, stigma, fragmented care and poor understanding of the condition. The authors argue that aligning nomenclature with scientific evolution will improve accuracy; enhance awareness, diagnosis, care quality, research coherence, and patient experience; while strengthening policy, advocacy, and health outcomes globally.

✨️The new name, PMOS recognizes that this is not just a reproductive issue (as difficult as such diseases are). It is a complex, lifelong endocrine and metabolic condition affecting an estimated 170 million women globally.

For advocates in women’s health, this shift is bigger than semantics.
It represents:
✨ Better recognition of women’s lived experiences
✨ More accurate diagnosis and clinical care
✨ Stronger research and policy advocacy
✨ Reduced stigma around reproductive health conditions
✨ A move toward whole-person healthcare for women and girls

As a patient advocacy organization, we welcome this important step toward language that validates our lived experiences, rather than minimizing them.

So... Congratulations to everyone who played a part in this laudable change!🎊🎉

When girls understand that severe period pain is not normal, they are more likely to seek help early; thus reducing years of delayed diagnosis, missed school days, mental health struggles, and future fertility complications.

Awareness empowers girls to advocate for their health, break menstrual stigma, and access care sooner.

You can sponsor endometriosis awareness to schoolgirls. Please send a DM to learn more.
