FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: January 15, 2026
FROM: Society for Human Advancement and Creativity Organisation (SHACO)
SUBJECT: SHACO Stands in Solidarity with Bobi Wine and the People of Uganda in their Quest for Democratic Advancement
As the world watches the Republic of Uganda today, January 15, 2026, the Society for Human Advancement and Creativity Organisation (SHACO) extends its full support and solidarity to Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), the National Unity Platform (NUP), and the resilient people of Uganda.
SHACO believes that "Human Advancement" is impossible without the freedom to choose leadership without fear of coercion. The creative energy of the Ugandan youth, led by the vision of Bobi Wine, represents the very spirit of the "New Africa"—one that refuses to be silenced by the old tools of oppression, internet blackouts, or military intimidation.
Our Position:
On Human Rights: We condemn the systematic harassment of opposition figures and the suppression of civic spaces. Democracy is not merely an event; it is a fundamental human right.
On Creative Resilience: We salute the "Ghetto President" for using the creative arts and music as a vehicle for political awakening and social change.
On the Global Struggle: SHACO reminds our comrades in Uganda that your struggle is our struggle. When the rights of a citizen in Kampala are trampled, the shadow falls on activists in Nigeria and across the globe.
Scriptural Encouragement for the Journey:
In our pursuit of a better society, we hold onto the promise in Psalm 37:6:
"He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun."
We call on the international community, the African Union (AU), and the East African Community (EAC) to ensure that the will of the Ugandan people is respected. To the voters in Uganda: Stay focused, stay peaceful, and let your voices be heard at the ballot box.
For Advancement and Creativity,
Comrade Mark Akande Founder/Coordinator,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SHACO DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF 52 STUDENTS ARRESTED IN EKPOMA; DECLARES "INSECURITY DID NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT"
EKPOMA, EDO STATE | JANUARY 14, 2026 — The Society for Human Advancement and Creativity Organisation (SHACO) hereby issues this formal demand for the immediate and unconditional release of the fifty-two (52) students and youths currently remanded at the Ubiaja Correctional Centre following the recent protests in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.
The Failure of Governance and Security
For too long, the people of Ekpoma—particularly the student population of Ambrose Alli University—have lived under a reign of terror. Kidnappers no longer hide in the shadows; they move from house to house, picking up citizens in broad daylight while demanding ransoms that devalue the essence of human life.
As noted by social commentator and advocate, Oselumhense Anetor:
"Ekpoma did not become unsafe overnight. The issue did not start with the protests of the young people a few days ago... It started much earlier. If the government of the day continues to confuse strength with recklessness, it will deepen the very crisis it claims to be fighting."
A Pattern of Selective Efficiency
SHACO finds it deeply disturbing that the same security apparatus that appears "helpless" in the face of banditry and forest-dwelling kidnappers suddenly found the "efficiency" to round up, arraign, and remand 52 young people within hours.
We highlight the following concerns:
Indiscriminate Arrests: Reports from relatives and witnesses suggest that many of those arrested were not at the protest site but were picked up from hostels and private homes.
Lack of Due Process: We question the depth of the investigation conducted before these individuals were packed into "Black Maria" vans like sardines.
Historical Precedent: We recall the aftermath of the Uromi incidents in 2025, where indiscriminate arrests became a tool for extortion rather than justice.
Our Demands
The anger seen on the streets of Ekpoma is a direct result of abandonment. People protested because they felt they had no other voice. To punish the victims of insecurity for crying out is a double tragedy.
SHACO hereby demands:
The Immediate Release of all students and residents arrested during and after the Ekpoma protests, pending a transparent and individualized review of their alleged offenses.
A Judicial Inquiry into the "house-to-house" arrest tactics used by law enforcement in Ekpoma.
Action over Intimidation: That the Edo State Government and security agencies redirect their "swift efficiency" toward combing the forests and arresting the known kidnappers terrorizing Esan land.
Conclusion
Power must be exercised with restraint. If the government cannot protect the students of Ekpoma from kidnappers, the least it can do is refrain from criminalizing their frustration. SHACO stands with the families of the "Ekpoma 52" and we will not stay silent until justice is served.
Signed,
Director of Communications
Society for Human Advancement and Creativity Organisation (SHACO)
In solidarity with the people of Esan West.
