Islam permits a man and a woman who are considering marriage to see one another before making a decision. This is not for entertainment or dating, but to help both parties make an informed choice about a lifelong commitment.
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged this practice. When a companion intended to marry a woman, he said:
“Look at her, for that is more likely to create affection between you.”
Seeing a potential spouse can help prevent regrets, strengthen mutual acceptance, and promote harmony in marriage. However, this should be done within Islamic guidelines—respectfully, modestly, and with the knowledge of families or guardians where appropriate.
Islam is a religion of wisdom. It does not encourage blind decisions in matters as important as marriage. A marriage built on sincerity, understanding, and taqwa has a stronger foundation for success.
May Allah guide every Muslim seeking a righteous spouse and bless their unions with love, mercy, and tranquility. Ameen.
