Our recent engagement at Sabonkogi marked a significant milestone in our community outreach efforts. The project was designed to serve the surrounding community, reaching over 3000 households and impacting thousands of residents, and it was successfully implemented.

The experience was both rewarding and encouraging. As we look ahead, we are preparing another initiative focused on the children in this community, as part of our activities to celebrate and support them during the Christmas season.

The girls of Sabonkoji were beaming with excitement the moment they heard they would be taught how to make and clean reusable sanitary pads. It was all laughs as they also learned to produce organic bathing soap and liquid soap for washing, life transforming skills that now mean so much more to them.

For many, it was their first time learning about menstrual hygiene in a safe, open space, free from stigma, shame, or silence.
Beyond the supplies and skills, what we shared that day was dignity, confidence, and hope.

This is what our menstrual hygiene programme in Sabonkoji Island is all about empowering girls and women with knowledge, tools, and the courage to care for themselves with pride.

A heartfelt thank you to the German Missions in Nigeria for the small-scale project funding that made this achievement possible.

At Hope for the Masses Foundation, we stand with every girl, in the classroom, in her home, and in her community, affirming her right to live, learn, and lead with confidence and dignity.

The theme for this year, "The girl I am, the change I lead" is apt. Too many girls still face barriers to education, healthcare, and safety. In communities like SabonKoji, Agala, and beyond, we’ve seen firsthand how limited access to menstrual hygiene, clean water, and basic resources can hold them back. That’s why our commitment remains strong to break these barriers, one girl at a time.

Every intervention, every conversation, and every act of kindness counts. Together, we can build a future where no girl is left behind.

The Untold Story of Sabonkoji Girls

We met this young girl in Sabonkoji whose story has refused to leave my mind.
She whispered, that during her period, she uses pieces of old cotton wool and torn cloth because she can’t afford sanitary pads. After each cycle, she throws them into the lagoon, the same water her family depends on for bathing, washing, and sometimes even cooking.

She isn’t alone. Many girls in Sabonkoji live this reality month after month, battling shame, discomfort, and infections, some even had to stop school, simply because something as basic as menstrual hygiene is a luxury they cannot afford.

In their world, menstruation isn’t just a biological process; it’s a struggle for dignity.
Their stories remind us that menstrual hygiene is not a privilege, it’s a right.

Let’s stand with them. Let’s give them back their dignity.

Celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child 2025! 💜

Hope for the Masses Foundation is proud to partner with Educate 2 Empower (E2E) and to commemorate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, themed around promoting girl child education in Nigeria.

This year, our focus is on the plight of out-of-school children, with a special spotlight on girls who are forced into adulthood too early. Through storytelling, advocacy, and action, we aim to amplify voices that are too often unheard.

We’re excited to join the E2E Soirée featuring the screening of ADDA: The Educated Girl – Nigeria’s Most Powerful Untapped Resource, and a thought-provoking panel discussion with Powerful panelists, like .abah,
and our dear Executive Director, Oluwatomisin Adebukola .

At Hope for the Masses Foundation, nothing gladdens us more than seeing real change in the lives of people, like this pregnant woman who can now fetch water whenever she needs it, and the children who now get to school earlier because they no longer have to wait for merchant boats to buy water.

Access to clean water is a bridge to better health, education, and dignity. When communities have safe water, mothers thrive, children learn, and hope grows.

But there’s still so much more to do, more communities to reach, more lives to transform. So the work continues.
