On May 13th, our Programs Manager, , represented Headfort Foundation at a consultative meeting convened by the Ogun State office of the National Human Rights Commission on the National Action Plan (NAP) for Human Rights in Nigeria (2024–2028).
The engagement brought together key stakeholders across government and civil society, including MDAs such as the Ministry of Justice, NDLEA, Immigration, Correctional Service, and the Legal Aid Council, alongside CSOs working to advance human rights in Nigeria.
The focus was clear: strengthening the implementation of the NAP as a national framework for the promotion, protection, and accountability of human rights, with the National Human Rights Commission serving as the coordinating and monitoring body.
Beyond dialogue, the session also provided clarity on the roles of both MDAs and CSOs in driving the Plan forward, reinforcing the need for coordination, accountability, and measurable impact.
For Headfort Foundation for justice, the NAP remains a critical tool, not just for advocacy, but for tracking progress, strengthening accountability, and aligning local efforts with global human rights standards.
During the session, we emphasized the importance of intentionally including grassroots communities in the implementation process, because human rights frameworks are only effective when they reach the people they are meant to serve.
The meeting served as a timely call for stronger collaboration and sustained commitment across all stakeholders to ensure that human rights protections move beyond policy into practice.
