STEMi Makers Africa

To empower an ecosystem of 2,000,000 young Africans with STEM emerging careers, real-world problem-solving skills to excel in STEM pathways and become more experienced for Africa’s workforce by 2030.

What an incredible week representing the next generation of African innovators at West Africa’s largest tech & startup show!

From the Government Leadership & AI Summit in Abuja to the vibrant Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference in Lagos, our team was right in the heart of the conversations shaping Africa’s digital future.

We were especially proud to contribute to critical AI Governance discussions — advocating for ethical, inclusive, and Africa-centric frameworks that put young learners, data sovereignty, and responsible innovation at the centre because the future of on our continent cannot be written without the voices of the very generation that will build and live it.

At , we believe true AI progress starts with empowerment, orientation and capacity building of end-users (teachers, students, parents). That’s why we’re equipping over 30,000 teachers with 21st-century STEM skills, project-based learning, and real-world problem-solving abilities — including “AI for Good” challenges that turn curiosity into solutions for our communities.

GITEX Nigeria 2026 reminded us once again: Africa’s digital sovereignty depends on local talent, local infrastructure, and inclusive governance. And we’re fully committed to bridging that gap — one young innovator, one STEM club, one ethical AI conversation at a time.

Thank you to the organisers, partners, policymakers, and fellow changemakers who made this gathering so powerful. The work continues.

The future is African.
The future is now. 🚀🌍

🌍 Africa is NOT small. Never was.

STEMi Makers of Africa commends the Republic of Togo, and the African Union, for championing the adoption of resolution A/80/L.104 at the UN General Assembly, a historic decision to promote equal-area map projections worldwide.

Togo 🇹🇬 has demonstrated strong leadership by leading this campaign for the world to recognise that for centuries the cartographical minimisation of Africa was just part of a deliberate and systematic effort to reduce Africa.

This isn’t just about pretty maps or pride. The way we draw the world shapes how we understand it — and that has real consequences for STEM education.

Accurate 🗺️ maps are 🧑‍🔬🔬⚗️🔭🥼🧪 STEM tools. They train better scientists, engineers, data analysts, and policymakers. They help students see Africa 🌍 not as a peripheral footnote, but as a continental powerhouse of opportunity, complexity, and solutions.

Correcting the map is one small but powerful step toward decolonizing our curricula, strengthening 🚀 geographic literacy, and inspiring the next generation of African innovators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The true size of Africa belongs on every classroom wall, every textbook, every screen. Let’s keep correcting the record — for truth, for education, and for the future.

When 📚 textbooks and classroom walls show a diminished Africa:
1️⃣ Students (everywhere) absorb a false sense of scale and importance.
2️⃣ Spatial reasoning, data visualization, and geographic literacy start from a flawed foundation.
3️⃣ Young Africans can internalize underestimation of their own continent’s resources, biodiversity, climate significance, and innovation potential.
4️⃣ Global challenges — climate modeling, sustainable engineering, agriculture tech, mineral resources for the energy transition, public-health logistics — are harder to grasp accurately when the continent 🌍 that will house a quarter of the world’s population by 2050 is visually minimized.

A piece of work we’re still incredibly proud of.

🥳🚨 Join us in Johannesburg, South Africa 🇿🇦 this October as we put teachers at the centre of education innovation.

We are thrilled to be showcasing our work at the South Africa 🇿🇦 edtech week and shifting the focus from broad tech adoption to meaningful classroom support.
Theme: Reclaiming the Classroom: EdTech as a Tool for Teacher Empowerment.

We will hosting an interactive exhibition and hands-on space for educators and attendees to test, demo, and evaluate our STEMi LMS solutions — directly — where students can IDEATE and take on engineering designs and STEM projects through our virtual lab.
When we design with teachers in mind and respect their expertise, technology becomes a powerful enabler rather than an obstacle.

👩‍💻 ALL ABOUT THE TECH BOOTCAMP FOR GIRLS THIS SEPTEMBER 🗓️

1️⃣ Our beneficiaries have begun with their first practical project — a traffic-light simulator designed to regulate classroom movement 🚷.

Each student role were assigned a specific light, with movement permitted only when that light activated. Students worked hands-on with physical components to build and test the prototype, then advanced from 🎨 2D plan drawings to functional 3D objects.

🥳 The system is now used daily in their classroom 🥇

2️⃣ Building on this experience, students developed a noise-detection machine to monitor and control classroom noise levels, a need identified during the design-thinking process. Prior knowledge from the traffic-light project enabled faster progress and stronger ex*****on.
The device ⚙️💻 uses sensors to detect sound 📣📵thresholds and triggers visual or auditory alerts when noise exceeds set limits, incorporating simple automation logic refined through classroom testing.

Congratulations to our Builders 🥳🚨
We are so proud of you.
