THE FASHION DESIGNER IS NOT TIRED OF SEWING… SHE IS TIRED OF DOING EVERYTHING. 🥺

There are days I sit in front of my machine and I just stare at it.

Not because I don't love sewing.
Not because I want to quit.
But because I'm tired.

Tired of being the one who does almost everything.

I am the designer.
I am the cutter.
I am the machinist.
I am the ironer.
I am the cleaner.
I am the receptionist.
I am the customer service person.
I am the social media manager.
I am the photographer.
I am the accountant.

Sometimes, I am even the dispatch rider. 😭

One woman. So many responsibilities.

You wake up with plans for the day…

Before you know it, a customer has called.

Another person is sending measurements on WhatsApp.

Someone is asking for a discount.

Another customer needs her outfit urgently.

You haven't eaten.
You haven't rested.
You haven't even finished the work you started yesterday.

But because you're a business owner, you keep going.

“I must do it.”

You wipe your face.

You sit back on that machine.
And you sew.

Sometimes, nobody knows that the beautiful outfit they are admiring took a piece of your strength with it.

They see the finished dress.
They don't see the tired eyes.
They don't see the late nights.
They don't see the meals you skipped.
They don't see the times you wanted to cry but still had to finish that seam.
They don't see the moments you wondered:

“Will this business ever become what I dream it to be?”

But somehow…

The next morning, you wake up again.

You open your shop.
You touch your machine.
And you start again.
Because this dream means something to you. ❤️

But I have learnt something:
Being hardworking doesn't mean you have to carry everything alone.

As the business grows, we must learn to delegate.

Get help where you can.
Set boundaries.
Charge properly.

Stop accepting every “please help me” when it is already costing you your peace.

And please…
REST.

Your business needs you healthy.
Your customers need you creative.
Your family needs you present.
And YOU deserve to enjoy the life you're working so hard to build.

So, to every Solo fashion designer who is currently doing “I am the CEO, PA, accountant, tailor, cleaner and marketer” 😂😭
I see you.

I know say e no easy.

But abeg, don't forget the woman behind the brand.

Take care of her too. ❤️

One day, by God's grace, we'll have people working with us and we'll look back at these days and say:

“Chai… see wetin we survive.” 🥹

“Is it not just thread and lining?” 😩

Sometimes, as a fashion designer, you hear things that make you wonder if the person really understands what goes into creating that outfit.

“Madam, why is it this price? Is it not just thread and lining?”

Honestly, if sewing clothes was just about thread and lining, maybe things would be much easier. 😂

But when you pay me to make your outfit, you’re not just paying for the thread, lining or fabric.

You’re paying for my time.

The hours spent taking your measurements, drafting, cutting, sewing, fitting and making adjustments.

You’re paying for my knowledge.
Years of learning how fabrics behave, how to achieve the right fit, how to structure an outfit and how to turn an idea in your head into something you can actually wear.

You’re paying for my expertise.
The experience that helps me know what will work and what won’t before I even touch the fabric.

And let’s not forget the countless mistakes, sleepless nights, practice and money I invested to become good at what I do today.

So please, when you see the price of a well-made outfit, don’t look only at the thread and lining.
