President John Mahama has announced that all African passport holders traveling to Ghana for business or tourism will now apply for visas through a new online e-visa system without paying any visa fees. He said the move is aimed at improving travel access while maintaining security and efficient border management.

President Mahama also revealed plans to expand easier travel access for people of African descent worldwide, describing the decision as part of Ghana’s longstanding commitment to Pan-African unity inspired by Kwame Nkrumah.

Developments like this supports the AfCFTA Africa integration goal in achieving the Africa renaissance.

World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) Established.

29 countries have officially signed the agreement establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) in Shanghai, China, making them the organization’s founding members. WAICO is designed as an independent intergovernmental organization with its headquarters in Shanghai, focused on advancing international AI cooperation, governance, technology sharing, and capacity building, particularly for developing nations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping backed the initiative during the World AI Conference (WAIC), positioning WAICO as a platform to promote a more inclusive global AI governance framework amid growing geopolitical competition over artificial intelligence.

The founding members include countries such as China, Brazil, South Africa, Pakistan, Indonesia, Russia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Algeria, Cameroon, Cuba, Venezuela, Zambia, and others.

West Africa is set for a major economic milestone as ECOWAS moves towards launching its long-awaited single regional currency, the ECO, in 2027.

The currency is expected to strengthen regional trade, deepen economic integration and create a more unified financial system across the bloc.
Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who currently chairs the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, is expected to play a key role in advancing the region’s integration agenda, alongside leaders including Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ECO project, which has faced several delays since it was first proposed, aims to establish a common currency for ECOWAS member states and boost economic cooperation across West Africa.

The government aims to create domestic jobs, increase foreign currency earnings, and move away from exporting unprocessed crops.

A new alliance of West African nations, including Nigeria seeks to regulate cocoa prices, promote local processing, and strengthen their bargaining power globally.
