Male reproductive health is influenced by a range of factors, including circulation, hormone balance, sleep, stress levels, and overall wellness. Research shows that lifestyle habits often play a significant role.

Common factors that support healthy function include:
1. Balanced lifestyle: Regular physical activity, a nutrient-rich diet, and quality sleep.
2. Stress management: High stress can impact hormone balance and circulation.

When it comes to reproductive health, speaking with a qualified healthcare professional is the safest first step.

For the future together!

One of the most caring things couples can do is have open conversations about health and get routine check-ups. Some infections don’t show obvious symptoms but can affect fertility, pregnancy, and overall health if left untreated.

Why testing matters:
1. Early detection– Many common infections can be treated easily when found early.
2. Peace of mind – Knowing your health status helps you make informed decisions together.
3. Protecting each other – Testing is a way to support and care for your partner’s health too.

Common tests couples discuss with their doctor:
- General health screening and blood tests
- Tests for infections that can be passed between partners
- Fertility-related checks if you’re planning to conceive

Every couple’s situation is different, so the right tests depend on age, medical history, and personal factors. A licensed healthcare provider can guide you on what’s appropriate.

Remember: Testing is normal, confidential, and part of responsible health care. It’s not about blame - it’s about care.

Did you know? Some health educators are now using the term “PMOS” instead of “PCOS”

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) is a name being used to describe the condition previously called Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS). The change reflects a broader view of how hormones and metabolism can interact in the body.

What does PMOS refer to?
It’s often described as a pattern where the ovaries produce higher-than-typical levels of certain hormones. This can affect menstrual cycles and ovulation, according to general information published by Cleveland Clinic.

Common observations include:
- Irregular or missed periods
- Changes in ovulation timing
- Small fluid-filled sacs visible on ovaries during ultrasound in some individuals
Note: Not everyone with this pattern has visible cysts, and cysts alone don’t confirm the condition._

When might it appear?
This pattern can develop after puberty. Many people first notice changes in their 20s or 30s, often when looking into menstrual cycle changes or fertility. Family history and body weight can be factors that increase likelihood, but they don’t guarantee the condition will develop.

Reporting Patterns:
1. Cycle changes– Irregular periods, heavier bleeding, or skipped periods
2. Hair & skin changes – Increased facial/body hair, persistent acne, skin darkening in folds, skin tags, or thinning scalp hair
3. Weight patterns – Difficulty managing weight for some individuals
4. Fertility considerations– Irregular ovulation can make conception more challenging for some people
5. Ultrasound findings – Larger-appearing ovaries with multiple follicles

Note: This explanation is for educational purposes only.

1. What the prostate does
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland below the bladder that makes seminal fluid. It grows with age. After 50, most men have some enlargement.

2. 3 Main prostate problems
- BPH – Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Non-cancer enlargement. Causes weak stream, frequent night urination, urgency. Affects ∼50% of men by age 60.
- Prostatitis: Inflammation/infection. Pain with urination, pelvic pain, sometimes fever. Can occur at any age.
- Prostate cancer: 2nd most common cancer in men. Often no early symptoms. Risk rises after 50, higher if Black or family history.

3. When to get checked
- Age 50+: Discuss PSA blood test + digital re**al exam with your doctor yearly.
- Age 45+: If Black or father/brother had prostate cancer.
- Any age: If you have blood in urine, painful urination, or can’t empty bladder – see a doctor immediately.

4. Daily habits that help
- Urinate when you need to: Holding it strains the bladder.
- Limit alcohol + caffeine: Both irritate the bladder and worsen urgency.
- Stay active: 30 min walk daily lowers BPH risk.
- Diet: Tomatoes, broccoli, green tea, and fatty fish have compounds linked to lower prostate cancer risk. Cut red meat and high-fat dairy.
- Hydrate smart: Drink water through the day, but reduce fluids 2 hours before bed to cut night trips.

Bottom line for Nigerian men: After 40, talk to your doctor about your stream, night urination, and family history. Early BPH is manageable.
