The 5-1-1 Rule is a common clinical guideline used to know when to Head to the Hospital

When you're in labor, this rule helps you know when it's time to go to the hospital or your birth center.

-​The 5-1-1 Breakdown

​5 Minutes Apart:
Contractions occur every 5 minutes (measured from the start of one to the start of the next). This indicates the uterus is working hard enough to dilate the cervix.

​1 Minute Long:
Each contraction lasts for a full 60 seconds. This duration provides the power needed to move the baby down.

​1 Hour Steady:
This pattern must remain consistent for at least one hour to ensure labor isn't "stalling" or just a false alarm.

As a newly pregnant mom, if you're experiencing this, it likely means your labor is progressing, and it's time to head to the hospital!. It serves as the primary signal that it is time to head to the hospital.
