A teenager should not have to learn life changing lessons only after a life changing decision has already been made.

From our previous posts, you probably already have an idea of what EmpowerED Teens will look like.

But here is the heart of the programme, directly from Abiola Adebiyi .

EmpowerED Teens is more than career guidance, financial literacy, or helping teenagers discover their strengths. It is an intervention designed to reach young people early enough to help shape the way they see themselves, the choices they make, and the future they believe is possible for them.

Because the right guidance, values, and mindset can make a difference long before a teenager has to face certain decisions on their own.

This is the heart behind EmpowerED Teens.

We are not just asking teenagers, “What do you want to become?”

We are helping them develop the self awareness, values, confidence, and mindset they need to navigate who they are becoming.

It’s never too early to start learning how money works or to think like a problem solver.

And you’d be surprised how many teenagers are already thinking about business, making money, starting something of their own, or simply wondering how they can create a better future for themselves.

Sometimes, they just need the right information and space to start asking better questions.

That’s part of the future we want to help young people prepare for through EmpowerED Teens.

We heard this firsthand during our AI Launchpad programme.

One of the teenagers told us they wanted to become a physiotherapist. But when we asked about the challenges standing between them and that dream, their answer wasn’t about their ability.

They were worried about getting into university because they didn’t believe the system would favour someone like them.

That conversation stayed with us.

Young people shouldn’t have to shrink their dreams based on what they think is possible for someone from their background or community.

Sometimes, exposure is the first step.

Sometimes, it is having someone say, “You can do this.”

And sometimes, it is simply giving a young person the opportunity to see possibilities they had never considered before.

That is why we do what we do with Empowered Teens.

If you believe every young person deserves access to opportunities, mentorship and experiences that expand what they believe is possible, come volunteer with us.

September is here, and for every teenager we get to reach, it’s another opportunity to start something new.

A new chapter to ask questions, discover strengths, try something different, and begin to see themselves and their future a little differently.
