INTRODUCING SUSTAINABLE NIGERIA_NOB INITIATIVE
The world is challenged by a changing climate, loss of biodiversity, abject poverty and environmental degradation. To tackle this challenges 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet
and improve the lives and prospects of , everywhere. Observably, the Economic, Social, and Environmental condition of Nigeria has remained consistently deplorable through the years, the condition has remained very difficult to solve despite efforts put in by Governments and Non-governmental Organizations. The fear to know that Nigeria in 2030 might not actualize major Sustainable Development Goals meant to improve our lives, our planet, and that of our future generations should pose great fear in our minds.Therefore, "Sustainable Nigeria_NOB Initiative" is created with the vision of involving every citizen in taking responsibility to militate this global challenges. This initiative has drawn some methods of actualizing this goals by providing the following information and services to the public(Nigerians):
✓Community Service Project: "Sustainable Nigeria_NOB Initiative" team donates their time to community service projects such as(Recycling programs, Cleanup, Donations, Volunteer, etc) in order to improve the life of those habiting the environment and improve the Environment.
✓Environmental Awareness: "Sustainable Nigeria_NOB Initiative" helps Nigerians to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection. This will be done by, keeping them up to date on Environmental news and organising Environmental Education programs in schools and communities.
✓Empowerment programs: "Sustainable Nigeria_NOB Initiative" provides opportunities such as skill acquisition, education empowerment, financial empowerment etc, to Nigerians because engaging people in meaningful activities will determine the prospects for sustainable development and peace. In summary, Sustainable Nigeria will provide proper awareness, advocacy, behavior change communication, empowerment, environmental education and understanding of the actual reasons why these goals should be of upmost priority to every citizens of Nigeria. The 17 Goals which was adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are seen below:
Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere. Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. A call for Action:
