Today is Children’s Day.

But for the first time in my life, my heart is too heavy to celebrate.

Every year since inception, this Foundation reaches out to children through our annual outreach programs - spreading love, hope, laughter, and reminding them that they matter. Earlier today, some of our sponsors and collaborators reached out concerning this year’s outreach, but I found myself emotionally broken in a way I have never experienced before.

How do we celebrate children when over 50 school children are reportedly trapped in the bushes after being abducted by armed men?

How do we speak of joy when innocent children are being starved, tortured, traumatized, and stripped of the basic right to safety and education?

How do we stay silent after hearing of the horrifying fate of their helpless teacher who reportedly lost his life in the course of this tragedy?

As I speak, the images and reports surrounding this incident continue to destabilize me emotionally. I cannot begin to imagine the pain, fear, and helplessness their parents are currently experiencing.

Today should not only be about celebration.

Today should be a national call to conscience.

Today should be about protecting the rights, dignity, freedom, and future of every child. These children are harmless. They deserve classrooms, not captivity. They deserve books, not brutality. They deserve dreams, not fear.

I stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and every child whose safety is threatened by violence and insecurity.

We must speak up.
We must demand action.
We must rise against this despicable and inhumane evil.

No child deserves this pain.
No parent deserves this nightmare.

May these children return home safely.
And may we never become so numb that we normalize the suffering of innocent lives.

PRAY FOR NIGERIA

Nigeria is bleeding, and we refuse to be silent. In the space of days, this nation has witnessed tragedies that no organized society should ever normalize: 25 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi, a vice principal murdered on duty, and now armed bandits invading a church in Kwara, killing worshippers and dragging innocent citizens into the bush like war spoils. This is no longer insecurity; this is unrestrained terrorism thriving under the watch of a system that has failed to protect its people.

What is happening across the country is a brutal pattern — not isolated incidents. Children are snatched from classrooms in Kebbi. Students are abducted in Kaduna. Church members slaughtered in Katsina. Farmers massacred in Borno. Entire communities wiped out in Plateau and Niger. Worshippers now killed in Kwara during a service. Yet leadership continues to downplay a national collapse with vague labels and recycled condolences. A nation under siege cannot be healed by silence, propaganda, or denial.

This is a moral and security breakdown of historic proportions. We cannot condemn terrorists at night and negotiate with them by morning. We cannot mourn school children today and bury worshippers tomorrow while insisting things are “under control.” We cannot continue pretending these attacks are random — they are a direct consequence of leadership failure and a state that has lost its grip on safety and justice. When world leaders like Donald J. Trump describe Nigeria as “a disgraced nation,” the sting is painful, but the tragic truth is that our present realities make such statements difficult to contest.

Our foundation demands immediate and uncompromising action: a national acknowledgment that this situation has escalated far beyond “banditry”; urgent deployment of security forces across high-risk communities; active air surveillance over known terrorist corridors; real protection for schools, churches, mosques, and vulnerable areas; transparent updates on rescue operations rather than political theatre; and accountability for leaders whose negligence continues to fuel the suffering of innocent Nigerians.

We will not stand idly while our people die. As a foundation, we are activating our Emergency Community Relief Response, supporting victims’ families, monitoring rescue efforts, and amplifying every truth that authorities attempt to bury. We will speak when others remain silent. We will act when institutions fold. We will defend the dignity of Nigerians with or without government cooperation.

Nigeria deserves peace. Our children deserve safety. Our worshippers deserve sanctuary. And this nation deserves far better than this endless cycle of grief, bloodshed, and unfulfilled promises. Silence is no longer an option — not for us, not for anyone.

💙 INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY MESSAGE

Today, we celebrate men... not for perfection, not for strength alone, but for the battles they fight quietly, the burdens they carry with courage, and the love they give even when the world demands more than they have.

To every man who wakes up daily to provide, protect, nurture, and lead…
To the boys growing into men and trying to find themselves in a world that rarely gives them space to feel…
To the fathers, brothers, sons, mentors, friends — we see you.

Being a man is not the absence of struggle; it is the presence of resilience.
It is showing up even on the days your spirit feels tired.
It is giving your best even when your heart is heavy.
It is protecting your family, building your dreams, and still finding room to smile.

Today, let this message remind you:
You are valued.
You are needed.
You are allowed to breathe.
You are allowed to heal.
You are allowed to ask for help.

As a foundation committed to uplifting lives, we reaffirm our support for the mental well-being, empowerment, and holistic growth of men everywhere.
May we build a world where men are celebrated not just for their strength, but also for their vulnerability — a world where boys grow knowing that gentleness, kindness, and empathy are also forms of power.

Happy International Men's Day.
Keep rising. Keep leading. Keep becoming.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2025 🌍🔥
Theme: Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond

We are not the leaders of tomorrow — we are the leaders of TODAY. ✊🏾
Nigerian youths have the power to shape our nation beyond limits. Let’s break free from every cycle that dims our light — on campus, online, and in our communities.

We have led before. We will lead again — through creativity, enterprise, and unity.
We call on all partners, governments, and institutions: protect our future, invest in our schools, empower our businesses, and uphold the dignity of every citizen.

These are not favors. They are our rights.
Let our generation be remembered for choosing progress, peace, and purpose.

In celebration of the 2025 children's day celebration, we decided to reach out. We met pain. We met hope. We met dreams trapped in tiny bodies wearing worn-out shoes and wide-eyed hunger. We saw children who carry more than their share of the world's weight and still smile not because life has been kind, but because hope refuses to die in them.

As we stepped into a small community in Enugu, partnering with a fellow charity organization (iFeed Charity Network) for Children's Day,
I was Moved to tears. Not out of pity, but from a place so personal it cracked my heart open.

There was this boy… just one boy, but he represented thousands. His presence stopped me cold and in that moment, I wasn't a founder. I wasn't a visitor. I was a human silently praying to God for the means to rewrite his story! To see him grow into everything the world said he couldn't be.
I wished, I prayed that I had all it took to change his story forever.

Because they deserve more. Every child deserves to dream big, to learn freely, to live fully. Every child deserves to know that their life matters, regardless of where they were born or what they wear.

This is more than charity. This is a war against indifference. A cry against inequality. A plea to the world: Don't forget them.

This is why we fight. This is why we give. This is why we won't stop.

To every child across the globe, you are seen, you are loved, you are valid. Happy Children’s Day.

This is deeper than giving. This is personal.
This is a fight for dignity. For justice. For a future where no child goes to bed feeling forgotten by the world.

Through this foundation, we’ve pledged to never stop showing up for every child who feels unseen, unheard, unloved. Because their dreams are not too big. Because their lives are not too small.

This Children’s Day, we don’t just celebrate. We cry. We reflect. We remember.

And we recommit to fighting for every right, every life, every child.

Until the last child is fed.
Until the last dream is valid.
Until no child is left behind.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION:

Don Sylvester Foundation Condemns Child Abuse Incident in Borno State

The Don Sylvester Foundation expresses deep concern and condemnation over the recent incident involving a full-grown man in Borno State, Nigeria, who was seen physically assaulting his 7-year-old son. Regardless of the circumstances or frustrations involved, such acts of violence against children are completely unacceptable and must not be tolerated.

Children are precious gifts, innocent and vulnerable. They are not only the pride of families but also the future of our nation. No child deserves to endure abuse, especially in the one place that should be their sanctuary: home.

This unfortunate incident is a grim reminder of the rising cases of child abuse that often go unnoticed or unpunished. As a foundation committed to child welfare and development, we assert that our children must be prioritized, protected, and nurtured. The trauma inflicted by such acts leaves lasting scars and breeds future societal challenges.

We hereby call on the Nigerian Government, the Borno State Government, and all well-meaning individuals, organizations, and foundations within and outside Nigeria, to rise to the occasion. Let us work together to advocate for the rights and safety of children, to push for stronger policies, and to ensure justice is served in cases of child abuse.

The bar must be raised. It takes a village to raise a child and even more dedication to protect them.

Signed,
Don Sylvester
