Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, in partnership with Hephzibarian Women Initiatives, has taken a bold step in the fight against Styrofoam and single-use plastics. Our advocacy and sensitization campaign seeks to address the environmental hazards posed by plastic pollution—clogged drainages, worsening floods, and long-term climate damage.
Key government officials, environmental advocates, and market leaders joined voices to stress the urgency of action. From Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu, the Speacial Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Environment, who emphasized the need for stronger partnerships to eliminate Styrofoam, to Mrs. Olabimpe Adenaike, the representative of the minister of Environment, Honourable Balarabe Abass Lawal, who championed sustainable alternatives like glass cups and reusable food flasks, the message was clear: we must act now.
At Hephzibarian Women Initiatives, we believe in community-driven solutions. Our work empowers women and market leaders, like Iya Afin Adedeji, to drive grassroots action in enforcing this ban and promoting better sanitation. We also recognize the vital role of school students, like Abayomi Akinola and Aminu Hamsat , who reminded us that protecting our environment starts with individual responsibility.
This campaign is not just about policies; it’s about a collective commitment to a cleaner, healthier Lagos. I commend the Lagos State Government for its leadership and call on every Lagosian to join us in this fight against plastic waste.
Also by the sides was mega empowerment for vendors affected by the ban from the state government and Pupils in attendance.
