OVER 100 NIGERIANS AND CAMEROONIANS RESCUED FROM A SLAVE CAMP IN OGUN STATE NIGERIA
Not less than over 100 cameroonians, including a child, have been rescued from an alleged slave camp in ogun state, nigeria, following a coordinated operation by security agencies.
several of the victims were found in critical health conditions after enduring prolonged abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment by their abductors. investigations revealed that the victims, alongside some nigerians, were lured into nigeria with promises of making millions through a fraudulent ponzi marketing scheme known as qnet.
according to testimonies from the rescued victims, many individuals trapped in the scheme were subjected to severe torture, starvation, and prolonged isolation. some victims alleged that colleagues lost their lives while in captivity. they were reportedly held incommunicado for months without access to adequate food, water, or medical care.
the situation came to light after families who encountered reports online raised alarms, stating that their relatives were also trapped by the qnet scheme. some families disclosed that their loved ones frequently contacted them to demand ransom, claiming their abductors would only release them upon payment.
acting on intelligence provided by distressed families, a joint team comprising the police, local vigilantes, and other security agencies raided the location and rescued the victims.
authorities confirmed that arrangements have been made for the repatriation of the cameroonian victims to their respective regions. meanwhile, several suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody. officials stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
security agencies have urged the public to remain vigilant and verify employment or investment opportunities to avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
