The Care to Capacity Project was more than a photography workshop it became a space for expression, inclusion, and growth. Through the lens, students with autism found powerful new ways to tell their stories and show us their world.

This impact was only possible because of an amazing community. To every sponsor, volunteer, partner, and supporter you didn’t just contribute to a project, you made a real difference in people’s lives.

What we built goes beyond moments captured on camera. We’ve opened doors, inspired confidence, and created new possibilities.

We experienced one of the most inspiring moments of the program when one of the staff members was given the opportunity to share a speech with the children.

is a remarkable young woman who expresses herself through art, creating beautiful drawings with her leg. She continues to work with confidence, creativity, and strength, and her talent speaks loudly beyond words.

As she stood to speak, the room became completely quiet. Every child listened with full attention as Toma shared her thoughts. There was a deep sense of admiration, pride, and inspiration in the atmosphere.

Her speech was more than just words it was a powerful expression of resilience, courage, and self-belief. She reminded everyone present that ability is not defined by limitations, but by determination, passion, and the willingness to keep pushing forward.

This moment stood out as a strong reminder of why this initiative exists to create a safe space where children can express themselves, be heard, and believe in their own potential.

Toma’s voice became a lasting reminder that every child has value, every child has talent, and every child has a story worth sharing.

We were privileged to have lead a special guitar session that truly brought the entire room to life.

played soft, beautiful melodies on the guitar, filling the space with warmth and calm energy. As the music flowed, the children naturally began to sing along voices blending with the guitar in a moment of pure joy and harmony.

It was more than just a session. It became a moment of expression, connection, and confidence coming alive through music.

Experiences like this remind us why we do what we do creating safe spaces where children can learn, express themselves, and simply be happy.

On the final day of the Care to Capacity Project, we stepped away from cameras and into pure joy.The children spent the day playing games, laughter filling the room as they engaged in fun learning activities. One of the highlights was the letter arrangement game where they carefully arranged letters to form words, learning while having fun.

It wasn’t just about the game, but about confidence, teamwork, and expression. You could see their excitement in every correct word and every shared smile.

Though it was the last day, it didn’t feel like an ending it felt like a beginning.A beginning of new confidence, new skills, and new possibilities.

Moments like this remind us why we started.

After being introduced to the speedlight, the real transformation began when the participants stepped into the practical session.

This time, they didn’t just watch one after the other, they carefully mounted the speedlight, explored how it connects to the camera, and began to see, in real time, how light can be shaped and controlled. What once felt unfamiliar quickly became a tool for expression.

And in that process, something powerful happened they started experimenting, they started adjusting and they started believing because there is a difference between being taught and discovering for yourself and it is in that moment of discovery that confidence is born.

Every click of the camera became more than just a photo, it became a step toward independence. A step toward skill. A step toward possibility. At Photography to Slums Foundation, this is the essence of the Care to Capacity Project moving beyond theory into real, practical experiences that translate into confidence, competence, and future opportunities.

Because when young people are equipped with hands-on, income-relevant skills, they don’t just learn they begin to build a more stable and self-sustaining future this is how transformation happens.

If you believe in creating pathways through skills and creativity, then be part of this journey. Support, share, and amplify because every opportunity given is a future reshaped.

On Day 6 of the Care to Capacity Project, we moved beyond natural light into a new dimension control.

The introduction of the speedlight was not just about learning a tool; it was about unlocking possibilities.

For the kids, this was their first interaction with external lighting equipment. What seemed technical at first quickly became tangible through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice from understanding how to mount the speedlight to exploring how it transforms a scene.

But the real shift wasn’t just in their photos.
It was in their perspective. They began to see that creativity is not limited by environment it can be shaped. Adjusted. Directed.

That is what tools like the speedlight represent: the power to create light, even when it is not readily available and in many ways, that mirrors the journey we are building.

At Photography to Slums Foundation, we are not just teaching photography we are equipping young people with the ability to take control of their narratives, build confidence, and step into more independent and sustainable futures.

Because when skill meets exposure, and exposure meets opportunity, transformation becomes inevitable.

This is more than training.
This is capacity in motion.

If you believe in creating access, empowering potential, and building futures through skills, then be part of this journey. Support, share, and amplify.

Because sometimes, all it takes is the right tool and the right opportunity to change everything.

On Day 7, the children moved beyond their prototypes and learned how to fix real camera lenses. With careful guidance, they explored how each part works, adjusting and attaching the lenses with focus and patience.

There were a few challenges along the way, but their determination stood out. Each successful fix brought excitement, and they proudly shared their progress with one another.

This session wasn’t just about fixing lenses it was about building confidence, introducing practical skills, and showing the children that they are capable of more than they imagine. Step by step, they are not just learning photography they are becoming creators and problem-solvers.

On Day 7 of the Care to Capacity Project, we welcomed students from the Caregiver Academy of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, who came around for a visit and engagement exercise with the children. The visit was focused on interaction, learning, and building a supportive environment between caregivers and the children.

During the engagement, the students interacted closely with the children through friendly conversations, encouragement, and playful communication. They also participated in simple physical and cognitive exercises designed to improve coordination, attention, and social connection. These activities helped create a lively and inclusive atmosphere where the children were actively involved and responsive.

The session also provided the caregiver students with practical exposure, allowing them to observe and understand the needs of the children in a real-life care environment. It was a meaningful experience that encouraged empathy, teamwork, and hands-on learning for the visiting students.

Overall, the Day 7 visit was impactful, creating a positive bond between the caregivers and the children while reinforcing the goals of the Care to Capacity Project.

Emmanuel, one of our own from the Ago-Egun community, returned not as a learner, but as a voice of experience to the Care to Capacity Project.

in that moment, the room shifted because there is a different kind of impact that happens when guidance comes from someone who has walked the same path. It becomes real. It becomes relatable. It becomes possible.

He spoke simply, but powerfully about focus, discipline, and the importance of staying committed to the process. Not from theory, but from lived experience and that is what mentorship should be.

Not distant inspiration, but accessible proof that growth is possible. We understand that skill acquisition alone is not enough. What truly shapes transformation is direction. It is seeing someone who looks like you, comes from where you come from, and is becoming something more.

Because sometimes, all a young person needs is not just opportunity but someone who reminds them that the opportunity is real. This is how we build more than skills. This is how we build belief.

If you believe in raising a generation that is not just skilled, but guided and grounded, then be part of this journey. Support, share, and amplify.

Because mentorship doesn’t just inspire it multiplies impact.

On Day 5 of the Care to Capacity Project, our focus was on one of the most essential elements of photography light. But beyond technique, we introduced a deeper truth they are the light of the world.

Through simple, visual, and engaging methods, the students explored the difference between natural and artificial light not just as concepts, but as tools for expression. They learned how light shapes mood, defines clarity, and transforms ordinary moments into meaningful images.

More importantly, they began to observe how sunlight falls, how shadows form and how even the smallest light can tell a story and that is where the real learning happened.Because photography is not just about the camera, it is about awareness. It is about seeing differently. It is about understanding that creativity often begins with something as simple as light.

Moments like this remind me that when you create the right environment, learning becomes discovery, and discovery builds confidence. At Photography to Slums Foundation, this is the bridge we are building from curiosity to capacity, from exposure to empowerment.

If this resonates with you, don’t just admire the work be part of it.Support the mission. Share the story. Open doors.
