PETER OBI ACCEPTS NDC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION, VOWS TO BUILD A UNITED AND SECURE NIGERIA

Abuja, Nigeria – May 30, 2026

Presidential hopeful **** has formally accepted his nomination as the presidential candidate of the ** (NDC)**, pledging to restore hope, strengthen national unity, and tackle the country's growing security challenges.

In his acceptance speech delivered in Abuja, Obi expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the party, including former Bayelsa State Governor ****, members of the National Working Committee, supporters, and Nigerians across the country who have continued to believe in the vision of a better nation.

Declaring that "A New Nigeria is Possible," Obi said the movement goes beyond personal ambition and represents a collective effort to secure a brighter future for generations to come.

"This moment is not about Peter Obi alone. It is about the future of Nigeria, the hopes of our children, and restoring confidence in a nation that belongs to all of us."

Call for National Unity

Obi emphasized that Nigeria's progress depends on overcoming ethnic, religious, regional, and political divisions. According to him, the country's diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than a cause of conflict.

He urged Nigerians to embrace understanding, trust, and cooperation, stressing that national development can only be achieved through unity and a shared sense of purpose.

Addressing Security Challenges

The NDC candidate also expressed concern over Nigeria's worsening security situation, noting the country's increasing exposure to terrorism and violent conflicts. He highlighted Nigeria's long-standing reputation as a respected contributor to international peacekeeping missions and praised the professionalism and sacrifices of Nigerian military personnel.

Obi pointed to Nigeria's successful peacekeeping roles in countries such as Rwanda, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, Cambodia, Haiti, and Kuwait, describing the nation's military heritage as a source of pride.

He pledged to prioritize the protection of lives and property, insisting that no nation can prosper when citizens live in fear.

"The first responsibility of government is the security of lives and property. We must confront insecurity with urgency, determination, and effective leadership."

Renewing Hope

Concluding his remarks, Obi reiterated his belief that Nigeria can overcome its challenges through responsible governance, national unity, and citizen participation.

His acceptance speech marks a significant step in the build-up to Nigeria's next presidential election, as political parties continue to position themselves for the contest ahead.

🇸🇨 SEYCHELLES ENTERS NEW POLITICAL ERA UNDER PRESIDENT PATRICK HERMINIE

The island nation of Seychelles is witnessing a significant political transition following the election of President Dr. Patrick Herminie, who assumed office in October 2025 as the country’s sixth president.

Leading the ruling United Seychelles party back to power, President Herminie has launched a series of governance, economic, and social reforms aimed at strengthening democracy, improving public welfare, and boosting national development.

In recent addresses to the National Assembly, the Seychellois leader emphasized transparency, accountability, and institutional reforms. His administration plans to introduce constitutional amendments designed to improve parliamentary independence, reduce political imbalance, and increase opportunities for smaller political parties to participate in governance.

The government has also announced anti-corruption measures, including mandatory public asset declarations for politicians and senior officials.

On the economic front, the administration is focusing on cost-of-living relief, tourism recovery, employment support, and poverty reduction. Several public welfare initiatives have already been unveiled, including the reintroduction of long-service benefits for workers, improved gratuity payments, youth employment programs, and expanded housing support for vulnerable citizens.

President Herminie has also pledged stronger action against drug trafficking and organized crime, while establishing new mental health and rehabilitation agencies to address rising social concerns.

Seychelles remains one of Africa’s most politically stable and economically strategic island nations, with growing importance in Indian Ocean security, tourism, fisheries, and climate diplomacy.

Observers across Africa are closely watching how the new administration navigates reforms, economic challenges, and regional partnerships in the coming years.

BREAKING: NELFUND Debunks Reports of Student Upkeep Suspension

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that the upkeep allowance for students under the federal student loan scheme has been suspended.

In an official clarification, the agency described the reports as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among beneficiaries across the country. NELFUND reassured students that the upkeep payments remain active and that disbursements are continuing in accordance with approved procedures.

The agency urged students and the general public to rely only on verified information released through official communication channels, warning against the spread of unconfirmed social media claims.

The student loan initiative, introduced under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was designed to ease the financial burden on students in tertiary institutions by covering tuition fees and providing monthly upkeep support.

NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and uninterrupted support for eligible Nigerian students as the programme continues nationwide.

🌍 AFRICA BUSINESS & ENERGY UPDATE 🌍
🇳🇬 DANGOTE REFINERY SET TO TRANSFORM AFRICA’S ECONOMY

The Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, is rapidly emerging as one of the most influential industrial projects in Africa’s modern history, with experts saying it could significantly reshape the continent’s fuel and economic landscape.

Owned by Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, the refinery has a processing capacity of approximately 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest single-train refinery in the world.

For decades, Nigeria — despite being one of Africa’s largest crude oil producers — relied heavily on imported refined petroleum products. The launch of the refinery is expected to reduce dependence on fuel imports, strengthen regional energy security, and save billions of dollars in foreign exchange annually.

Analysts believe the project could also position Nigeria as a major supplier of refined petroleum products across West Africa and beyond, reducing Africa’s reliance on Europe and the Middle East for fuel supplies.

Beyond energy, the refinery is expected to create thousands of jobs, boost industrialization, improve trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and enhance economic integration across the continent.

Economic observers have described the project as a major symbol of Africa’s growing industrial ambition and a step toward greater economic self-reliance.

However, debates continue over fuel pricing, market competition, environmental concerns, and the long-term sustainability of fossil fuel investments as the world shifts toward renewable energy.

Despite these concerns, many see the Dangote Refinery as a historic development capable of changing Africa’s economic trajectory for decades to come.
