Between March and April 2026, DKT Nigeria conducted a certification outreach for previously trained family planning providers across five LGAs in Lagos State - Ikorodu, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos Mainland, Badagry, and Oshodi-Isolo, demonstrating how strategic capacity building can translate into immediate and measurable public health outcomes.

Through the outreach:
• 890 individuals were reached with family planning information and counseling
• 371 clients adopted a family planning method with 238 choosing long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs)
• 19 trained providers successfully completed training certification

Flexible implementation approaches and continuous mentorship remain essential for strengthening workforce capacity, addressing provider availability challenges, and sustaining quality family planning service delivery that responds to communities’ immediate reproductive health needs.

Sometimes, the gap between intention and action is simply knowledge.

In many communities, family planning is surrounded by myths, half-truths, and silence. For some, it’s limited access to accurate information. For others, it’s deeply rooted beliefs, fear of side effects, or stories repeated so often they begin to feel like facts. When people don’t have trusted sources or safe spaces to ask questions, misinformation fills the gap.

At our family planning townhall meetings, as the one in Lagos featured in this video, we're shifting the narrative.

Through open, honest conversations, we created a space where questions were welcomed, myths were addressed respectfully, and facts were shared in ways people could truly understand. Because beyond information alone, people need trusted voices, real dialogue, and the confidence to make informed choices.

With partnership from the State Ministry of Health, PHCB, the Health District, and the LGA, and with the presence of the LGA Chairman, whose voice reinforced the importance of this conversation, the impact was clear.

We saw immediate uptake of family planning services right there on site.

This is what happens when communities are listened to, when trust is built, and when the right information meets people where they are.

We’re not just sharing information. We’re bridging the gap between myths and facts, fear and confidence, so women can make informed choices for their health and move toward safer, healthier lives.
