STAKEHOLDERS DIALOGUE CONFERENCE FOR EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE VAPP LAW

In Nasarawa State, we are leading the buildup of systems and strategies needed to turn law into real impact on the ground. Last month, under our Rise Up Together funded Advocacy intervention, we hosted a Dialogue Workshop and Stakeholders Conference to kickstart the development of an Implementation Framework for the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, civil society organisations, legal practitioners, and other key partners.Through constructive dialogue and shared insights, participants examined existing gaps in implementation and identified priority areas for action.

This important gathering marked the formal commencement of a collaborative process to develop a comprehensive Implementation Framework that will guide the practical application of the VAPP Act. The Framework is intended to strengthen coordination among relevant institutions, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure that the protections and provisions enshrined in the law are translated into tangible outcomes for individuals and communities affected by violence.

As part of our wholesome adult literacy and numeracy project, women in our local community of Namtari (Yola South - Adamawa State) are also receiving training on sexual and reproductive health rights — including a focused HIV education session.

Understanding HIV in a clear, respectful, and practical way: how it affects health, why early testing matters, how treatment works, and how stigma can be challenged. Combined with literacy and numeracy skills, this knowledge helps women ask better questions, read health information, keep appointments, and make informed choices for themselves and their families.

When women are educated, they can protect their health, support loved ones, and help build a community free from fear and misinformation.
We honour every woman who came to learn. Education is protection. Knowledge is power.

PHASE TWO OF OUR CGSW:
After completing our adult literacy and numeracy classes, the women under our Community Gender School of Women (CGSW) project are taking the next exciting step — practical training in livelihood skills and petty business!

After mastering reading, writing, and basic calculations in the PHASE ONE of our project, these determined women are now learning real skills that put food on the table and money in their pockets. They are gaining the confidence and knowledge to become successful entrepreneurs.

We are witnessing mothers, wives, and daughters transform into business owners — learning how to make and sell food and everyday goods right there in their community. Their stories are already inspiring others and strengthening families.

This is what true empowerment looks like: education that leads to independence, dignity, and a brighter future. We are so proud of every woman who has taken this journey with us. The best is yet to come!

FROM MAY TO AUGUST...
we commenced and completed an organizational development process with and for the Chibok Girls Survivors in the American University of Nigeria.

Our engagement, supported the process of self-organisation, including steps towards the formation and registration of a unified organizational structure.

From the development of organizational Goal, Objectives and Mission Statements, to the building capacity that positions the Chibok survivors as advocates, change-makers, and leaders in their communities.

To commence actions & activities that will facilitate the effective implementation of the VAPP Law in Nasarawa state, we engaged with custodians, implementers, service providers for a careful check of what is missing, what is weak and what has been failing. We conducted a gap analysis to ascertain, confirm and validate the operationality status of the law; including real facts and data to build a strong fix of the law.

Our project "Advocacy Actions for the Effective Implementation of VAPP Law In Nasarawa State" is funded by Rise Up Together to engage and influence key decision makers to facilitate a sustained and effective implementation of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (2021), across prevention, protection, prosecution, and policy pillars.

IT WAS A WRAP!!!
But we aren't done yet.
Our adult women learners wrapped up the Literacy and Numeracy learning phase of the Community Gender School of Women (CGSW) in Namtari Community of Yola South this month.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the amazing progress of these women. From learning to read and write their names to recognizing numbers, solving everyday calculations, and gaining confidence in their abilities, their journey has been nothing short of inspiring. ❤️

We are super proud of ourselves for what we have been able to achieve through them. Despite having had no formal education, they are now embracing the opportunity to learn, grow, and build new possibilities for themselves.❤️

ON A CONGRATULATORY VISIT TO DR NAWANI ABOKI

For years Dr Nawani Aboki has bore many tittles and held many positions of repute. From a Permanent Secretary, Special Advisor, Founder and Executive Director of a prominent NGO (NAWYCA), a Development Expert, CEO of enterprises (BREEZE FM) and a Political Anchor.

We at Every Girl Initiative (EGI) paid a congcongratulatory visit to felicitate with him over his recent appointment as a Honourable Commissioner by Nasarawa State Government. An attestation of his years of contribution community and National Development.

Beyond being a statesman and a community development expert, Dr Aboki has for years been passionate about creating spaces for young people, building their capacities to thrive in the state and beyond. This year, his organization foremost YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP - the first in Nigeria will celebrating 25 years of empowerijg young people on the vital concerns of adolescent health, leadership, career planning, life building skills.

This year too, he has been given yet another platform to continue to serve and pursue, his people driven agenda.

In Niger state, Every Girl Initiative represented by our Executive Director, joined key Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition (CSSUN) partners from Nasarawa State to support government officials from key MDAs of Niger state in a two days training on the State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN) Performance Management System (PMS).

The PMS is a digital platform used to track, report, and evaluate nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs across Nigeria.
The training on the upgraded PMS for Line MDAs in Niger State was organized to familiarize participants with the improvements and enhanced features of the system and to equip them with the knowledge and practical skills required for its effective use.

At the end of the trianing, participants were expected to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the training to strengthen performance management practices, improve reporting, and contribute to more effective monitoring of institutional performance within their respective organizations.
