UMUSAM COMMUNITY RESOLVES TO PURSUE LEGAL ACTION IN LONG-STANDING DISPUTE
The leadership and people of Umusam Community, Utagba-Uno, have unanimously resolved to pursue legal means in addressing the prolonged crisis involving Mr. Andrew Igbudu, a former Youth President of the community.
According to community leaders, the dispute has persisted for nearly a decade following the expiration of Mr. Igbudu's tenure as Youth President. During this period, several Umusam indigenes, including respected chiefs, the Onotu-Ukwu, the Okpala-Ukwu, youth leaders, and other community members, have reportedly been subjected to arrests, invitations, and investigations at various police formations, including Zone 5 Headquarters and the Federal Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
In 2025, following an incident involving Zone 5, prominent chiefs from Umusam Ogbe intervened and initiated a peace process on behalf of Mr. Igbudu. The community welcomed the peace initiative and outlined conditions aimed at achieving reconciliation and lasting peace. However, instead of embracing the peace process, further actions were taken which resulted in another round of arrests involving the community chief, youth president, and other executives of the youth body, it was followed by bringing a strange Oracle to defile the land of Umusam including those he knows that is forbidden by our other Quarters in Utagba Uno
The community stated that it has exercised patience and repeatedly provided opportunities for reconciliation and peaceful settlement. However, after years of unsuccessful efforts, the community believes that seeking redress through the courts is now the most appropriate and lawful course of action.
At a general meeting held today, members unanimously agreed to commence legal proceedings, and the community has pledged to keep the public informed as the litigation process progresses.
In a related development, the women of Umusam Community staged a peaceful protest to express their concerns over the prolonged dispute and to call for justice, peace, and unity within the community and also asked that Igbudu should vacate the community if he feels he is too Big to reconcile with the community and live peacefully like each and everyone living in the community
The community reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, law and order, and pursuing all matters through lawful and constitutional means.
