HURPA Condemns Poor Drainage Construction in Ozoro, Calls for Immediate Government Investigation
The Human Rights Pathfinders Association (HURPA) has strongly condemned the poor and substandard drainage construction currently circulating in a video shared by Engr. Aboma Japheth, an eye-witness to the project in Ozoro, Delta State.
In the video, Engr. Aboma Japheth exposed serious structural defects, poor workmanship, and lack of proper engineering standards in the drainage project, raising grave concerns about public safety and misuse of public funds. HURPA described the situation as a clear failure of accountability and professional responsibility.
The Association has therefore called on the Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Works and Rural Development, to immediately investigate the project, identify those responsible, and take decisive action.
HURPA further expressed deep concern over allegations in the video suggesting that notable community leaders may have been complicit in allowing such substandard work to be executed, stressing that development cannot thrive where corruption and silence prevail.
“No community can progress when public infrastructure is treated as a conduit for looting,” HURPA stated, adding that poor drainage construction not only wastes public resources but also exposes residents to flooding, road failure, and environmental hazards.
HURPA demanded transparency, sanctions for all culpable parties, and a complete reconstruction of the drainage project in line with acceptable engineering standards.
