“All Deaf people use sign language.”
“Speaking louder will help a Deaf person hear.”

These are only a few of the assumptions that can shape how we see and interact with Deaf people.
But assumptions are not facts.

How Deaf-Friendly Is Your Environment?

Deaf awareness is not only about understanding deafness.It is about understanding people, communication and access.

Ask yourself:
1) Are your videos captioned?
2) Can a Deaf person easily access important information?
3) Do you know even a few signs?
4) Would you know how to communicate if someone couldn't hear you?

Inclusion starts with awareness, but it grows through action.

This Deaf Awareness Month, learn something new, challenge an assumption and make your space a little more accessible.
