AREWA YOUTHS DEVELOPMENT AND AWARENESS FORUM ( AYDAF Update )
Press Statement on the Alleged Anti-Muslim Letter by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan
The Arewa Youths Development and Awareness Forum (AYDAF) expresses deep concern over the shocking report alleging that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, authored a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, making false and divisive accusations against Muslims in Nigeria.
Such action, if confirmed, represents a betrayal of national trust and unity, and is incompatible with the sacred responsibility of leading an independent electoral body that belongs to all Nigerians, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or region.
AYDAF therefore calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Senate, and all relevant authorities to immediately remove Prof. Joash Amupitan from office and begin a full-scale investigation into the matter.
Nigeria cannot afford to entrust its democratic future to anyone who harbors sentiments capable of dividing the nation along religious or ethnic lines.
We remind the government that silence in the face of such a serious allegation will only erode public confidence in our electoral process and damage Nigeria’s international reputation. We stand firmly for peace, justice, and national unity, and we reject any act that promotes discrimination or hate under any guise.
AYDAF calls on all citizens, especially the youth, to remain calm and law-abiding as we await the necessary actions from the government.
