BACKGROUND AND HISTORY OF PADS FOR EVERY GIRL INITIATIVE
Pads For Every Girl Initiative was born from a simple desire to support girls who face challenges accessing menstrual hygiene products and information.
The journey began on 10th July 2023 when a team of six volunteers carried out a menstrual hygiene outreach at Government Upper Basic Secondary School, Gandun Albasa, Kano. During the outreach, sanitary pads were distributed to female students as part of an effort to support menstrual dignity and school attendance among girls.
Following the success of the outreach, efforts were made to formally establish and register the initiative. However, many of the initial volunteers were unable to continue with the process, leaving the responsibility of building and sustaining the organisation to its founder, Alhassan Saudatu Zulkiflih.
Driven by a strong passion for supporting girls and improving menstrual hygiene awareness, she continued to pursue the vision and gradually assembled a new team of volunteers committed to the mission of the organisation.
In 2025, encouraged by her parents and motivated by the growing need for menstrual hygiene support among girls, she began saving towards the formal registration of the organisation. The registration process involved securing all necessary legal and administrative requirements, including Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, Tax Identification Number (TIN), official stamp, and other compliance documents.
The organisation was officially registered on 18th December 2025 under the name Pads For Every Girl Initiative after the proposed name, Free Pads 4 Every Girl Initiative, was not approved during the registration process.
Following registration, the organisation resumed its outreach activities. On 15th April 2026, Pads For Every Girl Initiative successfully conducted a menstrual hygiene outreach at Government Girls Secondary School, Tamburawan Gabas, Dorawar Na Abba, where menstrual hygiene kits and hygiene education were provided to beneficiaries.
The organisation is currently preparing for its next outreach at Government Girls Secondary School, Kura, scheduled for July 2026, with discussions ongoing with the school management regarding the outreach date.
Today, Pads For Every Girl Initiative continues to work towards its mission of ensuring that girls have access to menstrual hygiene products, education, and support needed to remain confident, healthy, and actively engaged in their education.
The organisation remains committed to expanding its reach across Kano State through partnerships, community engagement, and sustainable interventions that promote the health, dignity, and wellbeing of girls and young women.
