On Wednesday, 24th June 2026, Salmah Africa Rescue Initiative (SARI) successfully conducted a Menstrual Hygiene Education Session and Sanitary Pad Outreach at Governor’s College Girls Science and Technical College, Kano State.
The event brought together students, educators, and advocates to discuss the importance of menstrual health and hygiene while creating a safe space for open conversations about menstruation. The session focused on understanding menstruation and menstrual health, the importance of proper menstrual hygiene, and the use of both sanitary pads and reusable pads for safe menstrual management. It also addressed myths, stigma, and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
Students actively participated in the interactive session by asking and answering questions related to menstrual health. To encourage participation and reward engagement, 100 sanitary pads were distributed to students, while 25 tote bags were presented to students who correctly answered questions during the session.
The outreach aimed to equip adolescent girls with accurate information, boost their confidence, and promote healthy menstrual practices. Participants were encouraged to view menstruation as a natural biological process and to prioritize their health and well-being without shame or fear.
Speaking during the event, representatives of Salmah Africa Rescue Initiative reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting the dignity, health, and empowerment of girls through education, advocacy, and community-based interventions.
The initiative forms part of SARI’s ongoing efforts to break the silence around menstruation, reduce period poverty, and ensure that girls have access to the knowledge and resources needed to manage their menstrual health effectively.
Together, we can create a society where every girl is empowered, informed, and supported to reach her full potential.
